Position Details :

This position supports the NEA's strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by providing a variety of professional services with strong emphasis on supporting political campaigns for the Campaigns and Elections department in the Center for Advocacy and Political Action.

Position Summary : The incumbent serves as a member of the Campaigns and Elections Field Team. The essential functions involve collaborating with field / organizing leadership to assist in the implementation of outreach strategies as part of the designated campaign.

Oversee a robust member volunteer recruitment, training, and management program, both digital and in-person. Assist with the management, and training of members as voter contact organizers.

Assist in building and managing community events in execution of campaign strategy.

The work includes communicating and advocating NEA's political positions to state affiliates; uses effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of group / human dynamics to develop and implement organizing / capacity-building strategies.

The incumbent provides consultation, makes presentations, and delivers training, analyzes and maintains written materials to support, present and / or report on assigned projects and expectations.

The incumbent keeps apprised of Association goals, programs, and projects, as well as trends and changes in education issues, legislative issues and elections that may impact the Association, and brings experiences and thorough understanding of working in a diverse environment.

To carry out responsibilities, the employee uses a personal computer and associated software and other office automation technology and travels extensively by various conveyances, including driving a car.

Minimum Education Requirement : Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Minimum Qualifications : Experience as an employee on an Association staff or an advocacy organization with primary duties in legislative / political action.

Other Requirements : Writing samples (training, facilitation, strategic planning, reports, etc.) may be required at time of interview.

Must be able to work weekends and late evenings. Extensive travel (over 90 overnights per year) is required. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Selection Criteria : Tier 1 (Essential) : Experience in political and membership campaigns including polling, campaign communications, field work, data and voter contact.

Experience in working in a frenetic and fluid legislative / electoral / political environment. Exceptional experience in implementing training;

and assessing and evaluating activities. Successful editing and writing skills; demonstrated effective verbal skills. Demonstrated experience and accomplishments in working with leaders, members, and affiliates in problem-solving, and creative and critical thinking about public campaigns.

Demonstrated basic organizing skills. Demonstrated skills in developing strategies to foster positive change in a local or state affiliate.

Highly developed and effective interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, work as part of a team, and work with diverse client systems.

Experience in using technology, researching and analyzing data and information. Proven flexibility and effectiveness in handling multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities / conditions, including being able to self-manage and self-schedule.

Demonstrated experience in designing and developing membership strategies with political and legislative campaigns. Understanding of diversity and experience in engaging diverse group dialogue and conversation.

Successful references. TIER 2 (Significant) : Ability to work closely with other NEA departments and electoral partners.

Demonstrated ability to organize and build partnerships around common interests.
