The Electronic Specialist is responsible for maintaining, installing and designing electric and electronic equipment throughout the plant.  They are responsible for maintaining electric schematics and drawings and assist in designing applications of special equipment in the plant.  Capable of communicating with plant personnel in order to effectively trouble shoot production equipment, and assuring that plant equipment meets OSHA regulations.

 

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:  Identify the major duties and responsibilities of the job.

 

  1. What is done:  Maintenance Leadership – Provides consistent positive leadership to achieve required results through all maintenance technicians.  Insures that daily maintenance schedules, objectives and targets are communicated to, understood by and successfully addressed by all maintenance technicians.  Frequently moves throughout the plant to check on technicians and equipment.  Identifies maintenance problems and applies solutions as appropriate.  Alerts management and appropriate personnel in production/other departments to any/all problems that interfere with achieving production targets.  Assist maintenance coordinators, technicians and production employees as required.  Complete reports as required.

 

  1. What is done:  Resource Management – Equipment - Maintains continuous contact with Maintenance Coordinators & technicians to ensure that they understand maintenance assignments, are carrying out assigned duties and receive assistance in the event of problems.  Schedules and assigns Maintenance Coordinators to maintenance tasks.  Schedules overtime as needed.  Ensures that all technicians are properly trained.  Uses various techniques including coaching, small group meetings, one-on-one sessions, positive recognition and/or discipline to cause maintenance coordinators & technicians to achieve desired results.  Handles all 1st step grievances or similar dispute resolution mechanisms.  Maintains familiarity with collective bargaining agreement (union organized plants) and/or employee handbook.  Works with Plant Employee Relations Manager/Coordinator to resolve any people issues and implement Human Resources programs, policies and procedures.

 

  1. What is done:  Resource Management – Materials – Ensures that all machinery/equipment is working properly.  Coordinates maintenance and/or repairs of equipment as needed.  Checks to see that all material – spare parts, specialty tools, fluids, etc. – are available when needed.  Reports any shortages immediately to Plant Purchaser and/or Plant Manager.

 

  1. What is done:  Safety – Ensures that work area is free of all hazards and technicians are following all safety rules and regulations.  Develops and maintains personal knowledge of safety rules and regulation.  Conducts daily area tour (hazard analysis) and resolves any/all safety issues in an expedient fashion.  Conducts accident investigations and prepares written reports.  Conducts regular safety briefings and orientations to ensure safe operations.  Attends monthly safety committee meetings.

 

  1. What is done:  Quality & Sanitation – Notifies and coordinates with QA representatives to resolve any issues or problems.  Ensures that all maintenance coordinators & technicians are knowledgeable of Good Manufacturing Principles (GMP) and sanitation regulations.  Conducts frequent tours of plant to check that machinery is working properly and technicians are performing maintenance assignments in accord with GMPs and quality assurance standards.

 

  1. What is done:  Administration & Recordkeeping – Plans and budgets time efficiently; maintains files, reports in organized manner.  Processes and completes all required schedules, reports, maintenance coordinators time/payroll records, grievance meeting notes and technician discipline documents in a timely, accurate and professional manner.

The Electronic Specialist position is an essential position in the plant and is responsible for the successful operation of plant production through its maintenance program.  Due to the high visibility of this position, incumbent is required to maintain a consistently positive, professional demeanor.  In addition, the position includes the following:

  1. Responsible for 4 maintenance coordinators, 1 purchasing clerk and 16 maintenance technicians depending on shift and plant assignment.
  2. Position requires shift, weekend and overtime work as needed.

 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/ REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PERFORM MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:  Include only required physical and/or mental abilities and special criteria (heavy lifting, driver’s license requirements, overtime, special work hours, etc.).  Please list only those requirements that are job specific and which will ultimately be necessary for successful job performance.

  12. AutoCAD experience

1.             Must be able to return to plant on any shift and be able to work extended hours

2.             Must be able to have access to plant equipment – requires climbing & bending

  1. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  2. Must be able to work in hot and humid environment with temperatures of 100 degrees plus
  3. Must be able to work in areas that may have wheat flour dust or other food ingredients
  4. Must be able to work in loud/high noise volume areas
  5. Must have visual acuity for reading instructions and observing work processes.

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  Be specific with regards to years of experience, special training, applicable degree (or critical collect level courses), as well as equivalency to education and experience.

 

1.             Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural or Food Engineering or equivalent experience/background - determined by plant manager

2.             5-8 years relevant experience with minimum of four years supervisory experience

3.             Other manufacturing/industrial experience will be considered.
