To accomplish its goals and to extend reach and impact, the Education Department cultivates strategic partnerships; manages education-focused endowments, fellowships and grants; creates and disseminates education content and programs for Explorers and a K-16 audience domestically and internationally; connects Explorers to classrooms and communities; and engages youth in the mission by building Explorer-focused innovative, co-curricular opportunities. Building upon the Society's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion these educational resources and experiences elevate missing voices, bring a multiplicity of perspectives, and are accessible on a continuum of no-low-high tech capacities at scale across the globe.
Reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Innovation and Youth Initiatives, the Specialist will work across the Education division's Strategic Innovation and Youth Initiatives Team to provide critical support functions for the portfolio of Explorer-focused co-curricular experiences for youth. Under the direction of leadership across the team, the Specialist will execute tactical elements of the strategy including recruitment support and stakeholder management; planning, executing and logistics management associated with youth-facing events; contracts, payments and vendor support; and administrative and organizational support. The Specialists contributions are essential components of the implementation of National Geographic's high-impact programs that engage youth of all backgrounds in our mission and lead them to care and act on behalf of our planet and its people.
Your Impact
Responsibilities Include
Program Strategy and Development (15%):
* Gain comprehensive understanding of the goals of the organization, overarching NGS strategy, DEI guidelines, underlying education programs, and critical metrics across the organization.
* Contributes to the strategy and development of high-impact initiatives across the Strategic Innovation and Youth Initiatives portfolio.
Program Management (70%):
* Provides specialized knowledge, depth, and expertise across the Strategic Innovation and Youth Initiatives portfolio, under the direction of program leadership.
* Recruitment support and stakeholder management: Assist with application, recruitment, and selection processes in collaboration with teams across education; assist with constituent communications for youth programs, answer questions, point youth to relevant resources and coordinate email sends with internal partners.
* Planning, executing and logistics management for youth programming: Manage presenter recruitment and preparation, digital platforms and tools set-up, preparation of the run of show documents, reservation of spaces, and organization of catering.
* Analysis and Innovation: Interpretation of internal/external issues and recommends solutions, best practices, and streamlined processes.
* Executes tactical components of the strategy under direction of program leadership. This includes:
* Contracts, payments and vendor support: Administer contracts and payments across the program in coordination with the legal and finance teams.
* Administrative and organizational support: Assist with fulfillment of incentives and awards for youth programs, including identifying fulfillment vendors, selecting and pricing incentive items, working with vendors on branding; assist with scheduling of meetings, taking notes and managing agendas; update team organizational tools, such as work plans and roadmaps.
Team, Divisional and Organizational Collaboration (15%):
* Contributes to multiple initiatives across the Education team; serves on internal cross-platform workgroups to maximize strategy results and scale.
* Develops and maintains strong positive and empathetic working relationships with other NGS divisions and external teams.
* Contributes expertise to support divisional goals and processes as well as impact programs across the broader Education team.
* Supports a culture of inclusion, respect, empowerment, and accountability, while strongly promoting innovation.
What You'll Bring
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's degree in related field.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
3 years of experience in non-profit and/or education.
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
* Possess strong project management skills and high attention to detail.
* Highly developed oral and written communication skills and ability to work with individuals and groups at all levels.
* Ability to work on multiple projects, under deadlines, with changing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
* Prioritize and manage tasks and responsibilities that span multiple teams.
* Coordinating and managing appointments, meetings, and multiple schedules.
* Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and G-Suite tools.
Desired Qualifications
* Experience working with youth including managing engaging youth leaders, youth capacity building expertise, co-designing with youth, youth challenges, and youth development expertise.
