Summary

Conducts complex risk assessments on proposed insurance applications by analyzing data and authorizing policies to protect the bottom line of NLG and increase profitability. Will handle cases that cannot be auto-decisioned through the engine or handled by the Associate Underwriting team; focus on higher profile and more complicated risks.

Key Responsibilities

Case Review and Underwrites: An expert in complex risk assessments on potential clients (e.g. higher face values, authority, risk, etc.) Analyzes health-related data, assessing financial status of clients, and decisioning policies more complex in nature. A subject matter expert in various areas of Underwriting.

Growing and Maintaining Underwriting Knowledge Base: Continues to build knowledge and expand knowledge base; keeping up to date on Underwriting trends and sharing this information with the Underwriting department. Has developed an expertise as a subject matter expert and continuously seeks information in this area.

Collaborates: Excellent communicator that directly contributes to the building and maintaining of strong relationships within and outside the organization. Anticipates questions or misunderstandings from the field and is proactive in communication. Works across all lines with management, marketing, and internal/external partners.

Provides Technical Expertise: Participates in Underwriting projects/presentations as assigned that directly impact our department and efficiencies. Interacts with the field on calls, webinars, and/or field visits. Serves as go-to person for junior underwriter's and helps them efficiently assess risk, and role models day-to-day prioritization to help manage team workflow. Identifies opportunities for improvement in Underwriting and develops departmental philosophies and process changes to address concerns.

Escalation Resolution: Manages agency escalations (e.g. appeals, exception requests) within authority, creatively uses tools to assess risk, negotiate and sell decisions to balance risk and meet customer needs. Consults with team members on escalations using previous knowledge and experience.

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
