What You Will Do:
National Louis University has set the ambitious goal to increase Hispanic participation and success in graduate programs through building academic supports and networks. A critical aspect of ensuring student and program success is a relentlessly data-driven approach to planning, execution, and continuous improvement in all aspects of the educational experience. This role is funded through our CLAVE grant which aims to promote graduate degree attainment among the Latinx student population. The Data Analyst will collaborate with the Institutional Research Office and the Internal Evaluator to create and maintain a database that specifically focuses on Hispanic graduate students in the institution, including data on the intersecting identities relevant to Hispanic students, for example, immigration status, linguistic background, high school background, gender, race, as well as data on enrollment, retention, and graduation. Will also analyze institutional data to create and publish reports to be disseminated and presented to key university units, stakeholders, and community. This position will report to the Director of HSI Programs while working collaboratively with the Program Evaluator to collect and measure data for each activity and objective to ensure both completion and effectiveness.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conducts strategic analyses by querying, cleaning, manipulating, and interpreting data using statistical techniques.
- Collaborates with NLU’s Instructional Research Office, Business Intelligence, and the Program Evaluator to build new data elements into NLU’s central systems in order to effectively understand and analyze data related to CLAVE.
- Develops data collection mechanisms, including surveys, focus groups, and other instruments, in collaboration with the Program Evaluator to effectively track the impact of strategies and practices for increasing Hispanic student participation and success in graduate programs.
- Collaborates with the Program Evaluator to measure data for each activity and objective to ensure both completion and effectiveness.
- Creates and publish reports to be disseminated and presented to key university units, stakeholders, and community on grant outcomes and graduate student outcomes.
- Additional duties as assigned by either the program evaluator, institutional research, or CLAVE.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Education, Statistics, Social Work, Public Policy, Business, or related field.
- 1-3 years of experience manipulating large data sets with analytical software and/or coding languages (R, SQL, SAS, etc.)
- Experience working in education or youth services with increased responsibility.
- Experience working with Excel for data manipulation and visualization and with PowerPoint for creating sophisticated presentations.
- Experience working with data visualization/analytical software (Tableau, SAS, PowerBI, etc.)
