The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a leader in the U.S. Department of Energy’s effort to secure an environmentally and economically sustainable energy future. With locations in Golden and Boulder, Colorado, and a satellite office in Washington, D.C., NREL is the primary laboratory for research, development, and deployment of renewable energy technologies in the United States. NREL is subject to Department of Energy (DOE) access restrictions. All candidates must be authorized to access the facility per DOE rules and guidance within a reasonable time frame for the specified position in order to be considered for an interview. DOE rules for site access during the interview process are the same regardless of whether the candidate is interviewed on-site, off-site, or via telephone or videoconference. Additionally, DOE contractor employees are prohibited from participating in certain Foreign Government Talent Recruitment Programs (FGTRPs). Job Description The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) Communications Office has an opening for two experienced Communications Project Leads to launch and support complex communication campaigns and events related to renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. These positions will primarily support U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) projects that engage stakeholders and provide funding for innovation and entrepreneurship across industries, academia, and government organizations. In this Communications Professional II/III position, you will develop and execute multiple, complex communication launches, program plans, and events in parallel—tracking budget and deliverables against deadlines for our clients at NREL and DOE. Our team works in an agency-like setting, where you’ll help produce creative content through collaboration with clients, project managers, writers, editors, videographers, web specialists, and graphic designers. We’ll rely on your help to ensure exceptional, consistent quality and client service, so we’re looking for a self-motivated individual who is familiar with traditional and digital communications, demonstrates attention to detail and quality, delivers creative solutions, and is comfortable interacting directly with research staff and management while building strong working relationships across NREL’s Communications Office. Primary responsibilities include: Serving as main point of contact, project manager, and client representative for multiple communication campaigns related to funding prizes, competition events, and other programs Coordinating across colleagues in the Communications Office team supporting this work, including sharing information, identifying resources, ensuring collaboration, connecting dots, etc. Ensuring accuracy and quality control of all program documents, including program style guide, rules documents, and promotional material Coordinating content production (e.g., web copy, news articles, videos, press releases, presentation slides, social media posts, and design requests) aligned with brand requirements Writing short-form content (e.g., short-form articles, newsletter blurbs, and social media posts) Helping to create and track multiple timelines and budgets Coordinating virtual events, including providing technical support and acting as a host for webinars, meetings, and workshops Providing pre-event and onsite support for in-person events, working with conference organizers and vendors, preparing collateral material and presentations, scheduling printing and shipping, and arranging invoice payments Working closely with multiple technology and communication experts across NREL and DOE to secure approvals Building and maintaining positive relationships with teams, peers, and clients Informing project managers and team leaders on project status and day-to-day details. About NREL and the Communications Office NREL is the only DOE facility dedicated completely to renewable energy and energy efficiency research. The NREL Communications Office comprises communications experts in a variety of disciplines focused on raising awareness about the lab and DOE programs. This position resides in the Communications Office’s Science and Technology Communications Group, which includes teams representing NREL’s wide-ranging research areas. . Basic Qualifications Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience. General knowledge and application of technical standards, principles, theories and techniques. Frequent application of industry concepts and principles. General knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Skilled in problem solving, written and verbal communication. Ability to use various computer software programs. .
