WATER/WASTEWATER LABORER I
City of Williams Position Description (Grade: 4)
Summary Of Position
Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in maintaining and servicing water collection, distribution systems, and wastewater operations. Supports the Water/Wastewater Department in producing water cost-effectively that meets all Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.
Organizational Relationships
Reports to: Water/Wastewater Superintendent
Directs: This is not a supervisory position
Other: Works with other employees and the general public
Essential Duties
Specializes in maintenance duties, such as construction tasks, equipment repairs, maintenance, and preventative maintenance of the municipal water system, including Water plants, Wastewater plants, wells, watersheds, booster stations, tanks, and reservoirs
Physical exertion is performed under adverse weather conditions at high altitudes and exposure to dangerous toxic chemicals and materials, such as chlorine, caustic soda, aluminum sulfate, and lime
Studies maintenance manuals and applies repair strategies
Monitors and calibrates various instruments and equipment used in water treatment, including turbidimeters, chlorinators, residual chlorine analyzers, pH probes, etc
Awareness of the impact of decisions as they relate to regulatory compliance
Assures that Service Orders are completed promptly
May read and service and replace water meters
Available for emergency work; evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
Capable of covering shifts for other employees as needed
Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity
Performs other related duties as requested, directed, or assigned
Job Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Working knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety rules and precautions of Wastewater and Water treatment and production
Some knowledge of laboratory procedures related to sampling and testing potable water
Aptitude for understanding equipment operation, fluid movement, mechanical functions, and electrical theory
Mechanical aptitude and skill in the use of tools
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions at high altitudes
Ability to perform work requiring sustained climbing, standing, lifting, bending, kneeling, sitting, and walking
Ability to handle and work around dangerous chemicals
