Summary
The Communications Coordinator supports the internal and external communications goals to promote the mission and brand of the National Safety Council. The position is responsible for developing and managing internal communications channels with the aim of engaging employees in the Council’s mission while building a strong safety culture. Additionally, the position supports other writing assignments as needed to promote safety messages to external audiences.
Responsibilities
Internal communications – 75%
- Manage, write and distribute the NSC Insider, a weekly e-newsletter to keep NSC employees aware of key Council activities and information
- Update SafetyNet, the company’s internal website. This includes creating new content, updating existing content as needed and refreshing the home page regularly
- Responsible for writing and distributing urgent Safety Alerts to NSC staff
- Manage the NSC Events Calendar to inform staff of upcoming events and activities
- Assist in coordinating employee all-staff meetings and brown bag lunch discussions
- Work to streamline internal communications among the various internal committees
- Actively participate in staff activities while generating story ideas for the NSC employee newsletter and intranet
- Help departments and executive leadership communicate key updates to employees
- Update building signage, lobby monitor and elevator signs at headquarters
- Maintain metrics and track success of NSC employee communications
- Monitor current news and events for the Communications team
Web content development – 10%
- Assist in updating existing content on nsc.org to ensure that information remains relevant
- Assist with uploading press releases and blogs to nsc.org
Misc. projects – 15%
- Manage NSC copyright requests
- Other writing support as needed including newsletters, company on-hold messages and other writing assignments
- Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in writing and/or public relations.
- Minimum 1 year of project management experience and demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with departments across the organization.
