The Position
The Operations Manager plans and directs optimized performance within the Production, Maintenance, and Shipping departments to secure all operational outcomes meet the 48-hour locked schedule. The Operations Manager has oversight of and accountability of all three departments to meet all customer expectations and financial requirements, as well as to chronically secure safety measures and area cleanliness considerations are applied. The Operations Manager, as a critical leader of the Sales Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) Team, must deliver operations that precisely execute to the locked schedule, achieving 100% schedule attainment at the required unit cost and profitability, as well as deliver finished goods on time and in full to the customer. The Operations Manager is accountable to secure scheduled expectations within the Production, Maintenance and Shipping departments by delivering: asset/resource capacity availability; overall asset utilization; employee training/competency development; on time and in full customer delivery; and optimal performance outcomes of all operational resources and capacity. The Operations Manager must secure all customer expectations, operational throughput requirements and unit cost, budget attainment, and site profitability requirements are delivered according to the agreed Niles facility requirements. The Operations Manager focuses on production execution to schedule requirements, controlling maintenance cost centers, and supporting process improvement strategies to impact on time and in full delivery.
Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
- The Operations Manager, as a member of the National Standard Niles management leadership team, is required to manage daily operations through the Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Shipping Manager positions that directly reports to the Operations Manager. The Operations Manager must chronically qualitatively deliver the locked schedule throughput objectives by directly impacting asset uptime, unit cost, first pass yield, and on time in full delivery requirements. The position must precisely manage the usage of raw material, and both human and asset capacity within Production, Maintenance, and Shipping departments to secure optimized utilization of all performance considerations.
- The Operations Manager must receive from Sales Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) the rolling production plan and ensure the Production, Maintenance, and Shipping departments maintain capacity state of readiness.
- The Operations Manager is required to pre-emptively position all assets and resources within Production, Maintenance, and Shipping to be in a state of readiness prior to the shift start to produce directly to the 48 hour locked schedule requirements.
- The Operations Manager must ensure that the location’s Production, Maintenance, and Shipping operational and financial expectations are met and/or exceeded on a consistent basis.
- The Operations Manager is required to control, drive impact, and track compliance for departmental budgets, controlling key cost elements to obtain budget spending expectations.
- The Operations Manager is ultimately accountable for asset uptime within the Production, Maintenance, and Shipping departments to include primary and secondary assets and supplies.
- The Operations Manager is required to maintain partnership compliance with internal functions to include the Scheduling, Sales, Quality, Human Resources, and EHS functions to meet locked schedule expectations.
- The Operations Manager must secure the key meetings between managers and support organizations are executing to required levels performance ultimately delivering actionable performance outcomes.
- The Operations Manager is required to organize and review relevant leadership training sessions with all managers and supervisors within the Production, Maintenance, and Shipping departments. The Operations Manager must drive cross-training and competency development initiatives for employee development across the three departments.
- The Operations Manager is accountable for area cleanliness for all operations departments geography within the facility.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, or industrial) or related experience is required.
- 5 years of progressive experience in operations management or other leadership functions in a heavy manufacturing environment; proven track record of driving results through cultural change and leadership.
- Demonstrates exceptional action orientation toward customer-service with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast paced, dynamic business environment.
- Demonstrates strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to consolidate data into concise and logically organized executive-ready presentations and reports.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate at all levels clearly and effectively.
- Demonstrates solid technical ability with good attention to detail. Familiar with driving compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Demonstrates above-average proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrates effective conflict resolution and team-building skills.
- Displays proficiency in Microsoft tools required for data analysis and reporting.
- Willing to travel occasionally within the United States.
- Possesses previous experience with a collectively bargained workforce; highly preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour certification is preferred.
- ISO 9000 experience is preferred.
