About Us

Camp Desoto is a 700 acre camp located in south central Arkansas operated by the Desoto Area Council Boy Scouts of America dedicated to providing exceptional outdoor experiences and education to scouts and their leaders. We are seeking a dedicated and resourceful Camp Ranger to join our team and help maintain the beauty and functionality of our camp.

Job Description:

As a Camp Ranger, you will live on property, and be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the camp property. This includes a variety of tasks such as landscaping, building repair, equipment maintenance, and ensuring the safety of all camp visitors. This position reports to the Director of Properties and works closely with the council program and properties teams.

Responsibilities:

· Perform routine maintenance and repair of camp facilities, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work.

  • Ensure all physical property and equipment is maintained, in operational condition, and in good appearance.
  • Develop and follow schedules for regular inspections to determine essential repairs, routine maintenance, operational procedures, and ordering supplies as approved by supervisor.

· Properly maintain a swimming pool.

  • Maintain current and historical documentation and maintenance records as required.
  • Comply with established council business procedures including bookkeeping of petty cash, credit card log, reconciliation of camp reports, deposits, purchase orders and retaining business records.

· Coordinate and supervise, when necessary, the activities of volunteers, contractors, and service companies.

  • Represent the council well in contact with visitors, volunteers, and be able to communicate effectively while enforcing the established council policies and procedures.
  • Maintain harmonious relationships with local officials and governmental services, adjoining landowners, and neighboring communities.

· Ensure the camp is compliant with BSA NCAP standards.

· Assist in the planning and execution of camp events and activities.

· Provide support to camp staff and volunteers as needed.

· Patrol property as necessary for safety and security.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent and at least 21 years old.

· Experience in property maintenance or a related field.

· Register as a member of the Boy Scouts of America and pass a comprehensive background check.

· Ability to certify as a Ranger from a National BSA Camp School.

· Ability to certify as Pool Operator.

· Knowledge of basic repair skills (plumbing, electrical, carpentry).

· Ability to operate various power equipment and machinery.

· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

· Organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.

· Basic knowledge of computers (Windows, Microsoft Office) and use of email and the internet.

  • This position requires the employee to work long, irregular hours as needed, including early mornings, evenings and weekends as demanded by workload.

· Must have a truck with towing capabilities and willing to use as required for employment.

Experience:

  • Maintenance: 1 year (Preferred)
