What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planner II position at Navajo County?
Under general supervision, performs specialized work of moderate difficulty in county/community land planning, zoning and research; performs related work as assigned.

· Administers various ordinances and plans for construction and/or road projects, rezoning, use permits and variances.
· Works with citizen groups and individuals on planning and/or road issues.
· Meets with developers and property owners.
· Conducts site plan reviews to ensure compliance with ordinance requirements.
· Processes requests for rezoning, use permits and variances as needed.
· Presents cases to Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment.
· May approve routine application for temporary use permits and administrative adjustments.
· Manages the development and implementation of area and/or transportation plans, amendments to County Zoning Ordinances and updates zoning maps.
· Represents the County on interagency working groups and with outside agencies.
· Prepares and maintains records and reports.
· Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of planning and zoning.
· Knowledge of county, state and federal laws pertaining to county planning and zoning and/or transportation planning.
· Knowledge of graphic techniques and interpretation of topographic maps.
· Knowledge of land use ordinance and regulations.
· Knowledge of basic statistical methods and computer applications.
· Skill in applying the principles and practices of urban or regional planning.
· Skill in compiling statistical information and preparing technical reports.
· Skill in interpreting planning requirements and objectives to interested groups and the general public.
· Sill in interpreting and applying laws pertaining to county planning
· Skill in effectively communicating verbally and in writing.
· Skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Urban or Regional Zoning/Planning Engineering; AND two years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
