What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Analyst position at Navient?
Our Systems Analyst is responsible for testing the functionality and data integrity of the company's data warehouse. This includes testing the data extraction, transformation, and loading processes, as well as the data warehouse's ability to meet the company's business requirements. The analyst will also work with the development team to identify defects in the data warehouse.
Analysis
- Establish or supervise in establishment of a plan for thoroughly testing the system and validating the test results.
- Ensure test plans and results are reviewed with all clients.
- Design and supervise coding and testing of complex computer programs, enforce established methodology and standards.
- Review the internal design of the programs to ensure efficiency in using computer resources.
- Oversee and review unit testing of programs and work with TSG to resolve quality assurance exceptions.
- Research or delegate problem investigation of the system.
- Establish or supervise the solution to problem and implement or oversee the implementation of the solution to the problem.
- Make recommendations and decisions to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness of the delivered applications.
Testing
- Develop and execute test plans for the data warehouse.
- Identify and report defects in the data warehouse.
- Work with the development team to fix defects in the data warehouse.
- Source to Target and Data Definition Language (DDL) validation and testing.
- Data integrity testing.
Project Management
- Establish a project plan and manage the project with tools such as Gantt chart, PERT chart, and change related management procedures.
- Meet with management to establish or change priorities and report problems to al appropriate personnel in a timely fashion.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of management techniques supported by Navient to perform job efficiently.
- Keep up-to-date on management topics through trade publications, internal and external courses.
Production Support
- Provide on-call support during business hours to the EDW environment.
- Research and resolve production problems.
- Aid in troubleshooting issues with Hadoop users.
- Provide assistance to business areas using Hadoop to support their processes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree- Computer Science/Computer Technology or related field (Additional experience may substitute).
- 5 years of analysis and testing software solutions.
- 5 years identifying data quality issues and defects, along with root cause analysis.
- 4 years of experience and solid knowledge of high level programming languages and design techniques in batch, on-line and web related environments.
- Experience working with Agile teams.
- Experience writing user stories for functional and non-functional requirements.
- Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.
- Business experience, understand business drivers and be able to translate business needs into workable project plans.
- Intermediate knowledge and application of SQL.
- Additional education may substitute above above level of experience.
This position will support a federal government contract. Applicants must be able to obtain Public Trust security clearance as required of federal government contractors to include a background check conducted by the U.S. Government to determine eligibility and suitability for federal contract employment for public trust or sensitive positions. For this level of clearance, applicants must possess U.S. citizenship.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Working within a Data Warehouse environment and/or testing ETL data loads.
- Experience with ServiceNow.
- Experience working in Azure Dev Ops (ADO).
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and people while ensuring strategic focus is maintained in order to accomplish department goals and business objectives.
- High levels of presentation and interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability and willingness to work flexibly, under pressure and able to meet deadlines without prompting.
- A team player who understands how to build consensus and who has the ability to motivate others, and ensure assigned tasks and deliverables are being accomplished, reported and completed.
- Ability to produce high quality results in a dynamic work environment that involves numerous system and business process changes, new service/product development, regulatory changes, and volume fluctuations.
- High degree of initiative and flexibility. Must personally be able to set a great example and embrace and quickly adapt to change.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Must be able to identify the root causes to problems and develop solutions to eliminate re-occurrence.
- Excellent decision-making skills. Must be able to make good business decisions using factual and sometimes limited data.
