Scholars report to NPS in Monterey, CA for Fall Quarter on September 15, 2025. The Scholar will return to San Diego, CA the last 6 months of their Master's program.
Program Overview:
The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institution (HBCU/MSI) Scholarship for Service Program (S4S) is a two-year graduate program that is funded by the Department of Defense (DoD). This S4S Program allows competitively selected recent undergraduates to pursue their Masters degree in a variety of STEM fields relevant to the DoD.
Candidates will have the opportunity to select the geographic location of their interest at the time of application. Additional geographic locations that are available after program completion include:
Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic
- Charleston, South Carolina, or
- New Orleans, Louisiana
Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific
- San Diego, California
How Does It Work?
Selected candidates will spend 24 months in the S4S program. The initial 18 months are conducted at NPS Monterey, CA completing courses of study. The last 6 months of the program will be spent at their identified Naval Warfare Center completing their thesis.
Program Details:
- Scholars’ tuition is paid directly by the DoD.
- Scholars report to NPS for Fall Quarter on September 15, 2025.
- Upon completion of their undergraduate studies, Scholars will be employed at their respective Center at a level commensurate with a Master's level employee.
- Initial assignment will be as a full-time resident student in an accredited STEM Master's degree program at NPS.
- Upon completion of the program, graduates have a service commitment to work at their respective Naval Warfare Center for 3 years.
Eligibility Requirements:
All participants must be U.S. Citizens and eligible to receive a security clearance.
Candidates must be a recent graduate (or Spring 2025) graduate from an accredited four-year academic institution deemed as a HBCU or MSI by the U.S. Department of Education with a field of study in STEM.
