What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Supply Inventory Specialist position at NC State Veterinary Hospital?
The Hospital Inventory Specialist is responsible for consumable inventory including medical supplies, surgical implants, and medical equipment. This team member provides customer service to internal and external customers, answering questions concerning products used within the Veterinary Hospital (VH).
This team member is responsible for filling all inventory requests for Central Services, Pet Food, and Sterile Processing. Additionally, this team member will cross-train to assist the Pharmacy Inventory Specialist.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as a lead communicator (verbal and written) for the Purchasing & Inventory team by monitoring stockroom phone and email accounts.
- Assist with inventory for Central Services, Pharmacy, and Surgical implants to ensure accuracy of all amounts for each product. Complete back-counts when removing any items from the stockroom.
- Monitor Central Services, Pharmacy, and Surgical Implant stockrooms to ensure items are in the correct location and descriptions within the inventory system are accurate. Complete adjustments to stockroom shelving as new products are added or packaging changes for existing products.
- Review inventory transfers based on product availability, allocation status, and historical usage for each department at the VH.
- Deliver orders as requested to each department at the VH based on a set order schedule/worklist.
- Completion of Direct Charges (direct bill order entry) for Central Services, Sterile Processing, Pharmacy, and Pet Food.
- Complete quarterly usage analysis to ensure inventory PAR levels accurately reflect the VH’s actual usage. Collaborate with Purchasing Agents to update PAR information for each inventory location.
- Monitor stock expiration report and aging stock report to ensure inventory is dispositioned accurately. Completion of cycle counts based on request or at random to ensure inventory is accurate at all times.
- Assist Shipping & Receiving associate with receiving new shipments for Central Services, Pharmacy, and Surgical Implants.
