Assistant Director of Academic and Membership Affairs

This full-time position is primarily responsible for performing functions related to Division I academics. This position will also perform work within other areas of AMA and other academic duties, as assigned.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a primary member of the Division I academic team within Academic and Membership Affairs. Fulfill other academic duties, as assigned, depending on the selected candidate’s experience and expertise.
  • Serve as a member of the APP team, which may include validating APP data submissions, processing APR adjustments and APP penalty waivers, conducting APP data reviews, and reviewing APR improvement plans.
  • Process student-athlete academic waivers and interpretations, as assigned.
  • Serve as a member of another bylaw team as skills are presented.
  • Assist academic team leaders in policy matters by developing solutions to identified issues, drafting documents, and presenting concepts to staff and committees.
  • Serve as a liaison to various academic organizations.
  • Represent the NCAA and Academic and Membership Affairs staff through participation as a presented at various staff, Association, conference and professional organizations’ seminars, workshops and meetings.
  • Assist the membership, staff, and other interested individuals and organizations in understanding NCAA Division I academic legislation, interpretation and policy, as well as, through the conference contact program, committee support, written correspondence and in-person presentations (e.g., NCAA Regional Rules Seminars, conference meetings).
  • Complete miscellaneous projects, as assigned.
  • May serve on various group and national office project teams.

Job Requirements    

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree preferred.
  • Two years of full-time professional experience in intercollegiate athletics, higher education administrator or the legal profession required.
  • Preferred demonstrated working knowledge of NCAA rules.
  • Well-developed analytical skills.

  • Excellent writing skills.

  • Strong computer skills with a desire to embrace new technologies.

  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.

  • Estimated Travel Required <20%.
  • This position will be based out of the national office in Indianapolis, Indiana. Current work environment is hybrid; 3 days in the office and 2 days are remote.
