What are the responsibilities and job description for the Investigative Auditor position at ND Paper?

ND Paper, a leading paper product manufacturer in the US with approx. $1 billion annual sales, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nine Dragons Paper (Holdings) Limited, the largest containerboard producer in China and Asia, with $10 billion annual sales.  We are an environmentally-friendly company that manufactures various types of high-quality pulp, paper and paper-based packaging materials. Our mills in Rumford, Maine and Biron, Wisconsin are integrated paper & pulp facilities, and our mill in Fairmont, West Virginia is one of only three in the world that produces air-dried, recycled pulp. Our fourth mill in Old Town, Maine produces softwood kraft pulp. We are proud of our 1400 dedicated employees, who together produce more than 1.2 million short tons of pulp & paper annually.

You will perform projects that not only strengthen the internal control environment of the company, but also unlock value by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of company processes, reducing risk and driving performance and profitability.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work
  • Identify, collect, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data from a variety of sources to extract fact-based information significant to the project
  • Conduct interviews and meetings designed to elicit useful, relevant, and reliable information for fraud investigation, detection, and control projects
  • Document information and conclusions in an organized, timely, and useful manner
  • Evaluate facts, employ sound deductive reasoning to draw and support appropriate conclusions and make constructive recommendations
  • Write clear and concise reports that communicate the audit observations, risks and recommendations in a manner articulates the urgency or opportunity for Senior Leadership
  • Provide testimony in administrative, civil, or criminal hearings
  • Demonstrate mastery of fraud examination principles and fraud detection methodologies
  • Plan and perform both financial and operational/integrated audits, collaborating with other ND Paper team members, and focusing on the areas of risk as justified by metrics and data
  • Interact with team members at all levels of the business, conducting opening and closing meetings, and interviews
  • Coordinate work with external auditors, internal control compliance groups, corporate security, and other groups as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all professional standards as well as ND Paper’s own methodologies, policies, and procedures

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, Finance or similar
  • 3 or more years of experience in Internal Audit or External Audit (Big 4 preferred)
  • CPA, CIA, CFA or other similar certification(s)
  • Strong Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables)
  • General knowledge of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA’s) code of ethics and professional standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to clearly articulate thoughts as appropriate to key stakeholders/clients
  • Interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively on a team
  • Ability to travel within the United States—approximately 50% as needed
