THE TEAM MEMBER WE ARE SEARCHING FOR:
The ideal Assistant Controller believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of Notre Dame High School and exhibits this through his/her leadership, reflection, and collaboration to ensure the school’s success across the organization.  Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Finance of the Business Office, the Assistant Controller will be providing the day-to-day accounting functions requiring full professional competency for accounting records, budgets, and analyses that lead to accurate and timely reports.  He or she should have strong analytical, technology, communication, and organizational skills.
 
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO ACCOMPLISH:

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Managing all aspects of the general ledger including the preparation of journal entries and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Coordinating or assisting the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process.
  • Preparing and distributing monthly or quarterly internal financial reports to budget owners.
  • Preparing and consolidating financial statements.
  • Providing monthly, quarterly, and year-end analyses.
  • Coordinating or assisting with the budget process.
  • Supervising the staff accountant, payroll and accounts receivable accountant, and accounts payable staff.
  • Assisting with audit fieldwork for both operational and financial audits.
  • Communicating regularly with (and often reporting to) the Vice President of Finance.
  • Providing support to the Vice President of Finance regarding quarterly and annual presentations to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Analyzing and reporting budget to actual and year-over-year variances.
  • Establishing and maintaining internal controls.
  • Researching accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Researching and correcting account discrepancies including communicating results.
  • Cross-training to provide backup support for other accounting functions, such as accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, and risk management (requesting for certificate of insurance).
  • Attending staff and school meetings, workshops, conferences, and other training.
  • Suggesting strategies to improve financial operations and services.
  • Providing support for NAIS and Cal-ISBOA Surveys.
  • Providing support on various initiatives including simplification of chart of accounts and upgrading and outsourcing of various accounting functions (purchase order, invoice management, and payment processing).
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or ad hoc duties.

WHAT DO WE REQUIRE FROM YOU?

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or a related field.
 
Experience:
  • At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to GAAP.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Excel.
 
Skills and Abilities:
  • Highly proficient with accounting software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in other MS Office Suite and similar software.
  • Is a team player.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Openness to differing views and objectives.
  • Willingness to conduct research as needed and become knowledgeable in department-related information to support the school.
  • Serves the staff, student, and parent’s needs to the best of his/her ability without allowing his/her convenience to interfere.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend 20 stairs daily.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.

Salary : $95,000 - $110,000
