Patient Phone Triage

JOB SUMMARY:

Answers multi-line phone, screens caller and distributes to appropriate department. Serves as liaison between patient and medical staff.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

• Greet callers in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
• Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information.
• Assist patients with appointment scheduling.
• Sorts and delivers mail, medical records, and other correspondence.
• Prepare statements and insurance forms for mailing.
• Receives and sends faxed information and distributes as appropriate.
• Screens callers and responds to routine requests for information.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Performs related work as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school graduate or GED.
• Prefer one-year work experience, preferably in the medical office setting. Word processing and computer experience.
• Alternative to Minimum Qualification: None

Work is performed in the switchboard area. It involves frequent contact with patients. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Work may be stressful at times. PERFORMANCE:

• Knowledge of reception office procedures.
• Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• Skill in operating a computer, typewriter, adding machine, and copier.
• Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
• Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.
• Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians, and the public.
