Job Description

Role:The Manager, Corporate Strategy is a key resource aligned with creating long-term value for the Company. This role is responsible for helping develop actionable strategies that exploit opportunities and address business challenges by analyzing market/competitive dynamics and the relation to our business, generating insights, and developing gameplans that drives execution. Specific focus for this role is helping drive growth by supporting portfolio management, extending our access and participation in key growth categories, and evaluating attractive adjacent and new horizon markets. This role will work both at an enterprise level and will partner with business units on key initatives and project support. In addition, the Manager, Corporate Strategy will play a key role in strategic projects and M&A activites for the organization (such as aiding in target identification and diligence).

Core competencies for this role include strong analytical skills, curiosity, communication, influence, initiative, collaboration, project management, and commercial acumen. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Corporate Strategy, this role will be extremely close to key the strategic projects of the business and instrumental in driving analysis that informs major decisions. Key customers include the Executive Leadership Team, business unit leaders, members of the Corporate Strategy team, and other senior leaders of the company.

Responsibilities:
  1. Support the development and successful execution of strategies that enable Mativ's growth ambition
    • Lead or participate in corporate and/or cross functional projects that inform corporate direction and strategic agenda, organizational alignment, footprint optimization, investment decisions, savings initiatives, or growth plans
    • Support long-range planning efforts in alignment with overall corporate cadence
    • Aid in the development of portfolio strategy and activation planning, including objective assessments and pressure testing, white space/new adjacency identification, and/or divestiture evaluations.
    • Identification and assessment of industry trends and opportunities, including market/ customer shifts, cost imperatives, technology disruptions, and competitor performance
    • Collaborate with and support BU category leaders to monitor shifting market trends and help interpret implications on strategy; assist in developing actions to respond
    • Internal consulting for BU/functions to support performance improvement
    • Challenge status quos and beliefs to break down barriers that hinder strategic performance
  2. Lead commercial analysis and evaluation of adjacent growth categories, helping to develop actionable strategies to increase Mativ's participation in desired markets
    • Leverage market research, consultants, and other sources to evaluate the attractiveness of adjacent markets in alignment with overall strategic growth goals and growth platforms
    • Analyze and evaluate overall market size and addressability, historical and prospective growth, mega-trend alignment, competitive dynamics, customers & value chain positioning, and other commercial elements
    • Jointly develop a point-of-view (incorporating technology and manufacturing perspectives) and business plan/recommendations regarding potential entry and/or strategies to activate
    • Support development of build-out strategies that enable optionality and actionability, inclusive of M&A targets
  3. Support M&A efforts by conducting in-depth diligence of commercial elements of acquisition targets
    • Analyze topline growth and commercial performance of acquisition targets, covering areas including (but not limited to) historical growth trends, customer concentration and relationships, pricing practices, customer contracts, market position, competitive analysis, and other market-facing elements
    • Understand data room contents and obtain necessary information to complete diligence
    • Work with third parties, as appropriate, for independent assessment of target's markets and competitive position
    • Partner with business sponsors to highlight synergies and/or value detractors as part of overall diligence, helping to ensure that all commercial risks are evaluated/considered and investment decisions are well considered
    • Support transaction and subsequent integration efforts

Qualifications
  • ~5 years of experience, with specific roles working in consulting or commercial/market-facing context
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and compile complex data; perpetually curious and able to engage on various commercial aspects of the business
  • Willingness to work with market ambiguity while developing a logical, fact-oriented point-of-view
  • Exceptional communication skills; must be comfortable giving presentations to all levels of a corporation
  • Experience in a sales, marketing, or related commercial external-facing role; basic financial acumen and understanding of key financial terms and statements
  • Ability to successfully navigate in a fast-paced, outcomes-driven environment
  • Strong relationship builder; ability to develop and cultivate relationships with internal collaborators, potential targets, and other key advisors
