Position Purpose
The Controller plans and leads the work of the Accounting Operations within the Finance Group and is responsible for managing relevant staff and functions.
Essential Functions
Directs all aspects of accounting function and oversees the timely, accurate and complete recording of all transactions related to general ledger including but not limited to: cash, trade and rebate receivables, inventory, prepaids, fixed assets, payables, accruals, debt and equity from original entry to financial reporting
Develops and maintains all necessary accounting policies as it relates to general ledger and financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Stays current with financial developments and trends, and informs Management of upcoming impacts to the Company and implements changes as needed
Reports and publishes the Company's financial results and projections in relation to historical results, forecasts and budgets.
Plans, coordinates and oversees periodic audits of financial results, preparation of income tax filings, property/casualty insurance, etc. Develops and maintains relationships with outside accounting firms.
Prepare and publish financial information to banks and industry associations (DHI, AD)
Publish financial information to sales staff for customer qualification requests
Manages Credit personnel ensuring their consistent application of a credit policy, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, and the assessment of the creditworthiness of potential customers. Reviews collections process with the goal of optimized DSO. Ensure dormant account policy administration.
Manage payroll processing and coordination of benefits with payroll related change activity
Coordinate the development of estimates of incentive plan expense and record timely
Prepares financial analysis of operating trends, proposed operational or asset deployment and provides recommendations to facilitate decision making. Identifies profit improvement opportunities and makes recommendations. Manages payables processing to optimize use of financing tools including vendor discounts and reasonable payment terms.
Manages and motivates assigned staff to ensure efficient and effective resource utilization
Prepares and/or coordinates and reviews all state and local tax filings related to sales tax, franchise tax, registrations, business license, personal property tax, fuel tax, vehicle taxes and 1099's.
Manages all Company entity related tax planning and compliance with all required federal, state, local, property and other applicable taxes
Coordinates the efficient and optimized utilization of all software/systems including ERP and financial reporting tools, fixed asset accounting. Identifies and implements tighter system integration and standardization across all software/systems utilized.
Flexible/non-traditional schedule may be required, and occasional travel
Performs other functions as assigned
Qualifications
8-10 years related experience in financial management
BS or MS in Accounting
Professional license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Comfortable with learning and using new technologies
Sufficient experience with the Microsoft Office suite
