What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interior Designer III- Asset Strategy position at NELSON?

We are currently seeking Interior Designers to join our Asset Strategy Practice, in our Minneapolis and Atlanta studios.  Candidates experienced with tenant improvement, corporate design, commercial interiors, and conceptual design are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a fast paced practice, where designers work on multiple projects at one time with quick turn around. Strong Revit skills, presentation skills, and experience working on multiple projects at a time, while working at a fast pace, is preferred.  The Interior Designer III role is responsible for developing, organizing and executing the conceptual design of a project as well as utilizing creativity, foresight and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through project completion.

 

Selected Knowledge & Skills include (but not limited to):

  • Proficiency in Revit is required
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred
  • Ability to manage, mentor and delegate to Interns, Designer I and II as needed to complete drawings, documents, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness; consistently share such knowledge with Teammates.
  • Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Advanced knowledge of furniture, fixture and equipment (FF&E), architectural/interior finishes, lighting, art signage, color and materials to carryout design intent.
  • Advanced Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations, life safety codes and ADA requirements.
  • Knowledge of the construction process from bidding through construction administration, roles of consultants, contractors, construction schedules, phasing, inspections, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of project deadlines
  • Knowledge of expectations related to high quality service to clients
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Possess basic hand and CAD drafting skills
  • Possess space planning skills and interest in programming
  • Basic proficiency of Adobe Creative Suite skills preferred
  • Basic proficiency of 3D Modeling software such as 3D Studio Max and Viz 2006 preferred

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Conduct field surveys as required; Field surveys must be easy to read and thorough.
  • Assist in preparation of drawings for all design phases.
  • Update design documents as needed for all levels of designers.
  • Develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards.
  • Prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings.
  • Build models for client/project team review.
  • Provide research and compile data during design phases.
  • Prepare and modify architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc.
  • Participate in design charrettes and project team meetings.
  • Participate in client meetings as directed.
  • Participate in the construction process as requested (site visits, punch lists, submittals, shop drawing review, etc.).
  • Attend “lunch and learn” events and other vendor presentations on an ongoing basis.
  • Complete timesheet daily and expense reports accurately and on-time.
  • Embrace specific steps to create, develop and promote a diverse workforce and to promote an inclusive environment
  • Assist in the programming phases as directed.
  • Assist with the schematic phases as directed (sketching, input of sketches, modification of schematic test fit plans, etc.).
  • Possess basic knowledge of project budget and schedules as well as understands responsibility to adhere to set parameters.

 

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from an accredited University PLUS:
  •  5 years’ experience; or equivalent in appropriate education and experience working in the field of Architecture.

 

National salary average (regional cost of living factors are considered into the hiring process): $70,000 – $95,000, plus bonuses and benefits; contingent on relevant experience.
