Position Summary Information

Summary
The Director of Operations reports to the Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) and will work closely and in concert with the chair, faculty and staff in of DFCM. Responsibilities include oversight of DFCM operations, strategy design, fiscal management, personnel, space utilization, planning, and development.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
1) Operations and Strategic Initiatives – Provides leadership for Department operations; developing, communicating, executing, and sustaining strategic initiatives; creative and economic endeavors; space utilization; communications; and planning. Establishes streamlined processes and procedures aligning DFCM goals strategically. Promotes a culture of continuous improvement. Represents the DFCM initiatives as it interfaces with the university and clinical communities. Provides project management oversight for programming within the DFCM focus areas of education, discovery and community service. Provides oversight of DFCM grants.
2) Budget and Finance – Provides fiscal planning and oversight. Oversees the annual DFCM budget process, submits requests, monitors expenses and resource allocation. Assists the department leaders in budget development by engaging and coordinating with key constituents to help balance the delivery of programs with available financial resources, including new academic programs, and new department business ventures. Works to strengthen the DFCM’s commitment to a culture of transparent decision-making, professional accountability, and shared financial success.
3) Strategic Planning – Oversight of the facilitation, design, and implementation of the DFCM strategic plan and a shared value framework. This includes the development of an infrastructure that optimizes and actualizes all elements of the strategic plan and aligns with COM and NEOMED plans identifying risk, competitive landscape, and market position.
4) Human Resources, Supervision, and Legal –Represents the DFCM on all personnel matters, including recruitment, long range position planning, performance management, and faculty by laws matters. Serves as a liaison between the DFCM and Human Resources and Legal. Promotes and advances diversity, equity, and inclusion. Supervises administrative support staff, assigns special projects, provides project management oversight, and provides professional development opportunities.
5) Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education/Degrees: Master’s degree in business, higher education administration, mental health discipline, business administration or equivalent experience in a related field.
Experience: 5 years higher education, health care, and/or related experience required.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
