Position Summary:
As a Senior Chemist you are responsible for performing routine, and specialized non-routine laboratory procedures in a quality control laboratory. You will perform method development, method optimization, validation and verification of methods. Act as a subject matter expert to help train junior chemists, troubleshoot issues, and support technical components of out of specification (OOS) investigations. Duties are performed under limited supervision. Versatile skillset to provide expertise in most analytical techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs testing of samples according to established procedures with emphasis on the more complex methods supported by the laboratory.
- Supports all levels of analytical test execution to include instrumentation setup, reagent preparation, software programming, method execution and notebook write up along with any additional method specific requirements not covered.
- Strong working knowledge of laboratory cGDP. Excellence in mathematics to include deriving equations when necessary to calculate analytical and statical results.
- Meets timelines and work productivity target objectives as established by management.
- Informs laboratory management in a timely manner when equipment is not functioning properly and when supplies are depleting to avoid delays in testing.
- Working knowledge of USP to include use of the website for retrieving information, interpreting monographs and general chapters, executing methods and a general understanding of the USP revision process.
- General understanding of protocol and report generation for validation and verification of analytical methods in alignment with USP, ICH and company guidelines. Able to execute protocols in the validation and verification of new methods. General method development and optimization. Work in a compliant manner in both R&D(cGLP) and cGMP contexts.
- Trains laboratory associates on testing procedures.
- Troubleshoots issues in the lab concerning testing procedures and instrumentation.
- Maintains laboratory to standard requirements. Demonstrates good housekeeping practices. Understands and handles hazardous materials and waste using proper and safe techniques.
- Periodically performs duties of a higher position for the purpose of training and development.
- Leads OOS/OOT and other investigations, writes reports and defends observations and conclusions with management. As an SME, performs investigational testing to study atypical results.
- Revises existing test method documentation in collaboration with Analytical Services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience
- Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience
- Ph.D. degree with a minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Minimum requirements: Bachelor's Degree in the Sciences. Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry preferred.
- Subject Matter Expert in at least one technology to include HPLC/UPLC, GC, HPTLC, ICP-MS/OES, and/or UPLC-MS/MS.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient analytical skills
- Advanced computer skills with functionality using Microsoft Office suite.
- Able to lift 40lbs.
- Be able to stand for periods up to 8 hours each day.
