We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Camp Director to oversee the operations of our summer camp program. The Camp Director will be responsible for creating a safe and engaging environment for campers, managing staff, and ensuring the overall success of the camp. This is a leadership position that requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for working with children.
About our summer camp program:
Nestling House Summer Camp 2024 runs from June 17th-August 30th (closed 7/1-7/5).
Nestling House Summer Camp is a nature-based summer camp that aims to provide school-age children with a summer of full day, mostly outdoor experiences including hiking, playing, exploring, educational experiences and community! Humboldt Park days are filled with running up and down hills, hunting for frogs and tadpoles by the ponds, free play, reading in the shade of the trees, playing cooperative and team games, and more! Field trip days have included visits to Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, Harrington Beach State Park, Klode Park, Victory Farm, Urban Ecology Centers (Riverside and Washington Park), Grant Park, South Shore Park, Kettle Moraine State Park, Lynden Sculpture Garden, Havenswood State Forest, Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center, local museums and more! The camp team plans a schedule in advance but remains flexible to follow the interests of the children as the summer progresses, revisiting favorite spots and activities to encourage the children to engage in meaningful and deep play, nature exploration and natural learning opportunities each day.
Responsiblities:
- Develop and implement camp programs and activities that align with the mission and goals of the organization
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding camp updates and important information
- Evaluate the effectiveness of camp programs and make necessary improvements
Requirements:
A camp director shall be at least 21 years of age and shall have at least one of the
following:
a. The Wisconsin Afterschool and Youth Development Credential.
b. A bachelor’s degree in outdoor education, recreation, coaching, juvenile justice, social
work, psychology, child development, or education, or another camp-related field
c. Two or more years of supervisory or administrative experience in an organized camp
or children’s program.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to pass a background check
