Mortgage Loan Operations Analyst

Summary:

The Residential Loan Operations team is seeking a driven and motivated professional who would join the team as Mortgage Loan Operations Analyst. The Residential Loan Operations team supports a broad investment strategy which has focused on residential real estate credit for over 15 years. The Mortgage Loan Operations Analyst would join the Operations team and would be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of 35,000 loans held across NB’s portfolios. This includes being responsible for trading operations activities, surveillance of the third-party servicers, reconciling mortgage loan payment and expense activities, and being responsible for regular reporting to senior management with respect to various loan operation activities. The candidate is expected to eventually take on roles of increasing responsibility within the Operations team.

Responsibilities:

• Interface with mortgage loan sellers to receive, load and reconcile mortgage loan data. Data must be fully reconciled and entirely accurate before sending to the Portfolio Management team for their analysis

• Coordinate mortgage loan collateral file delivery to a Document Custodian. Work with the Document Custodian to ensure that all files are delivered and in good standing. Work with mortgage loan sellers to locate and effect delivery of any missing or deficient document

• Utilize proprietary software to generate all trading documentation and send to the appropriate parties, including the mortgage sellers, the Document Custodian, the fund administrator and trustee. Verify certain information in each document to ensure accuracy. Work with the NB Legal team to execute trading documents

• Coordinate servicing transfer of mortgage loans after trades settle. This includes working with the mortgage loan seller and NB’s mortgage loan servicers to initiate and track the transfer, complete 404 notices, transfer ownership on the MERS system, and reconcile payment activity while the servicing transfer is in process. Work with the Finance and Accounting team to ensure that all payments during interim servicing are received. Track all activities in NB’s proprietary software system

• After trade settlement, coordinate delivery of certain due diligence data from third-party vendors and load into NB’s proprietary software system

• On an annual basis, work with the NB Legal team to refresh corporate due diligence documentation from mortgage loan sellers and mortgage loan servicers

• Provide assistance to the Operations, Trading and Finance teams involved with other items related to servicing, such as trading operations, remittance reconciliation, legal agreements, etc.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate or a related field.

• 0-2 years of experience in the mortgage loan industry or a similar industry. New graduates would be considered for this position

• The candidate must effectively demonstrate the ability to manage large sets of data, effectively perform complex reconciliation activities, and learn the general aspects of the mortgage loan business

• Strong Excel skills will be required, given the amount of data managed on a day-to-day basis. This will be evaluated during the interview process

• The candidate also must have good interpersonal and communication skills, be team player and have the ability to work independently with a strong attention to detail
