Neuron23 Inc. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing precision medicines for genetically defined neurological and immunological diseases. Neuron23 leverages recent advances in human genetics, combined with knowledge- and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled drug discovery and biomarker platforms, to advance therapeutics for devastating diseases.

We are looking for an experienced business development leader to join a dynamic executive team in an exciting start-up environment. Neuron23 is working on two of the industry’s most exciting genetically-defined targets, LRRK2 and TYK2 and the candidate will be expected to hit the ground running, with strategic input on both of these programs. Reporting to the CEO, the person will actively lead efforts to create attractive partnership opportunities and execute deals that create and capture value from the company’s therapies in development. In addition, the candidate will be experienced engaging in corporate development activities (fundraising, IR, public market interactions) in partnership with the CEO and management team.

The ideal candidate has the combination of a deep understanding of the landscape in drug development and a detailed knowledge of market dynamics required to identify and advance the company’s pipeline. The individual will also have the skills and experience to manage external alliances and business partners, which are critical to the company’s presence and impact in data science. Outstanding candidates are those that think strategically and creatively about a wide range of opportunities that could be used by Neuron23 to realize its unique mission.

Principal Accountabilities

Research and synthesize emerging developments in science, key therapeutic areas, and drug targets in order to shape Neuron23’s business strategy, investments in drug discovery, and business development strategy.

Working with cross-functional team members, lead in-depth reviews of unmet needs for target indications, treatment pathway(s), market size, patient segmentation, competition, and payer landscapes in order to define target product profiles and build a R&D pipeline.

Develop and execute partnerships and new relationships with scientific and commercial partners to ensure that Neuron23 has access to the data sets and complementary capabilities (e.g., diagnostics) required to execute Neuron23’s approach to AI-enabled drug discovery and development of precision therapies.

Support the CEO in engaging with existing and new private investors as well as partners that may lead to an IPO or alternative financings to drive the company’s programs into later stage development.

Develop and maintain external relationships with a wide range of partners including bankers and investors to build awareness and interest in Neuron23’s programs and capabilities. Proactively identify and engage pharma/biotech companies and independently represent Neuron23 in BD discussions that will qualify potential partners for Neuron23 and/or its assets in development.

Prepare presentations and other content that this person as well as other leaders will present to qualified potential partners to convert interest into requests to enter into a transaction or partnership.

Lead the scientific, technical, financial, and operational workstreams required to conduct business development negotiations and successfully close deals.

Develop negotiating strategy and support the direct negotiation of deal terms that enable Neuron23 to capture appropriate value from partnership deals and provide the targeted return to investors.

Requirements

Expert knowledge of the pharmaceutical / biotech landscape, R&D trends, and market opportunities (with an emphasis in neurological disease or inflammation/immunology) typically achieved through an advanced degree in science and/or business and 12 years of experience in Business Development, Investment Banking, Management Consulting, or Corporate Strategy including 10 years in the biotech / pharmaceutical sector.

Demonstrable track record of engaging partners to achieve superior outcomes in business development, i.e., relevant and robust deal sheet, including recent successes.

Experience supporting investor relations, including private and public investor-related activities (IPO readiness work,

Demonstrable track record of leading cross functional teams consisting of representatives from R&D and G&A.

Demonstratable track record of effectively teaming with other senior leaders to enable a rapid understanding of the company’s programs, near and long-term milestones, scientific differentiation and positioning among the competition.

Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with proven ability to frame and solve complex problems and effectively communicate conclusions and recommendations to executive teams and broader audiences.

Verbal and written communication skills to the level of effectively producing and delivering highly compelling and persuasive presentations that influence business partners.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with key stakeholders, develop and build strong relationships with partners, and negotiate complex deals with sophisticated parties.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, working collaboratively as well as independently, under broad strategic guidance.

Estimated salary range: $300,000 - $350,000. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to the level and scope of job responsibilities. Individual pay is further determined by relevant work experience, education, training, skills, certifications, and location.
