Service Specialist

Position: The Nevada State Board of Cosmetology is seeking positive and energetic candidates who can work independently and perform multiple tasks in an office environment. The ideal candidate can navigate change, manage people and relationships effectively, and can easily navigate a smartphone, computer, and other devices. The Service Specialist serves under the general direction of the Lead Service Specialist and the Chief Operating Officer. The Service Specialist will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Board office.

Job Type: Full-time

Location: The position is located in Las Vegas.

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:00am-5:30pm.

Salary: The salary for this position ranges from 25-01 ($33k) to 25-10 (49k) contingent upon experience and selection of an employer/employee paid retirement plan (PERS).

Benefits: Unclassified position with the State of Nevada. Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, retirement package with Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada, and medical, dental, and vision insurance with Nevada Public Employees’ Benefits Program. 10 hours of sick leave per month (after initial 90 days of employment) and 10 hours of annual leave per month.

Board Organization: The Nevada State Board of Cosmetology was established in 1931 pursuant to NRS 644A.200. The mission of the Board is to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of those who obtain cosmetology-related services through the delivery of quality testing, licensing, inspection, and education services that focus on consumer protection.

Key Responsibilities*:

  • Review and process applications, payments, and other requests in a timely manner
  • Assist in maintaining updated information on the website and social media
  • Provide general information to customers
  • Assist staff with providing licensing information
  • Deliver licensing services in friendly manner (in-person, on phone, and email)
  • Provide fast and accurate information
  • Provide follow up information and direction to fellow staff and licensees
  • Incoming/Outgoing mail responsibilities, managing certified mail, with occasional travel to the post office, FedEx, etc.
  • Participate and assist in the Specialist Team’s objective via Team meetings
  • Participate and assist in other Team objectives as assigned
  • Maintain knowledge of NRS and NAC 644A
  • Maintain knowledge of organization and operational processes
  • Provide informational updates to staff related to team(s) progress

*A successful applicant will be expected to perform additional job-related duties as required.

Position Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in business administration, public administration, communication, marketing, advertising, health services, or a closely related field and two years of experience delivering excellent customer service and the usage of technology in a fast-paced office environment. OR
  • Two (2) years of experience delivering excellent customer service and using technology in a fast-paced office and demonstrated possession of the necessary abilities and knowledge for the position.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Bilingual preferred but not required (Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese)
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace
  • Valid Nevada drivers license (within 2 months of start date).
