TITLE: Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, Middle School
CLASSIFICATION: Certified Position
STATUS: Exempt (Salaried)/220 Days
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SUMMARY: To assist the principal in providing school wide leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a valid Building Level Administrator License; and,
Have a minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience at the middle school level (grades 5 – 8) highly desired;
have demonstrated superior ability to work with peers, supervisory staff, parents, and students;
projects a positive image to staff and the public;
should comprehend needs of middle school age students;
have the ability to make the school facility and environment an attractive, pleasant and productive place for working and learning;
have an understanding of the total middle school curriculum; and
have demonstrated leadership qualities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school.
Assists in the developing of schedules of classes and extra-curricular activities.
Plans, implements and oversees the preparation of student registration and scheduling.
Assists in safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the attendance clerk and counselors for follow-up actions.
Acts as Principal designee during expulsion process.
Serves with parents, faculty and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
Performs such record-keeping functions as the Principal may direct.
Supervises and evaluates teachers and departments as assigned by the Principal.
Assists in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program.
Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
Serves as principal designee during Special Education case conference/ACR.
Supervises the end-of-year student recognition activities and graduation.
Meets with students related to disciplinary referrals and provides guidance and consequences based on the type of infraction.
Plans, implements, and oversees orientation and support programs for incoming students.
Assists in the development of and prepares student handbook.
Serves in leadership role in continuous school improvement activities;
Plans, implements, and oversees the preparation for and administration of all student testing, i.e., ILEARN
Assists in building and maintaining the master schedule and making teacher assignments.
Conducts interviews all potential teachers and support personnel.
Schedules all middle school athletic events.
Schedules all middle school referees for athletic events.
Hires middle school athletic coaches.
Becomes point person for elementary athletic events and collaborates with elementary physical education lead teachers.
Services as liaison and communicates regularly with high school athletic directors.
Provides professional development for elementary and middle school coaches.
Oversees student athletic eligibility.
Assists in building a K-12 NAFC Athletic Program.
All other duties as assigned by middle school principals and the Director of Middle Schools.
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent or his/her designee.
