FOOD SERVICES DIRECTOR

New Covenant Academy is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, ten months a year (August to May) Food Services Director. Working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The individual will work at New Covenant Academy’s Warrior Campus 3304 S. Cox Rd., Springfield, MO. 65807.
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to manage and coordinate the day-to-day food service operations at the assigned school site, assuring compliance with mandated health and sanitation requirements. The Food Services Director also manages the lead food service worker at the other NCA kitchen.
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION
This is an hourly position, TBD based on experience and training. Fringe benefits for the full-time 10-month staff include 25% tuition remission for your own qualifying student/s to attend New Covenant Academy. Medical insurance for the employee (available on the first day of the month following or coinciding with the date of hire) with a majority of the basic plan premium paid by NCA. Other cafeteria plan options are available at the employee’s cost.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Estimate food preparation amounts and adjust forecasting when necessary to meet projected meal requirements and minimize waste of food items
- Inspect food and/or supply deliveries verifying quantity, quality, and specifications of orders.
- Maintain accurate equipment temperature, food temperature, production records maintenance, and receiving logs.
- Coordinate monthly menu with established nutritional and budget guidelines.
- Oversee the preparation, cooking, serving, and transportation of food and beverage items ensuring appealing presentation while meeting projected meal quantities and safe food handling standards.
- Participate in campus-specific kitchen meetings, in-service training (Serv/Safe, Food Handlers Certification, CPR, First Aid), and Springfield Grocer School Summer Food Expo to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
- Oversee the daily lunch charges and billing of lunches in RenWeb.
- Perform functions of other food service personnel positions as needed, ensuring adequate staff coverage.
- Review vendor invoices for accuracy and enter them into Financial Edge (FE)for the payment process
- Maintain account balances and records.
- Periodically audit POS registers for accuracy of pricing.
- Respond to inquiries from students, parents, staff, and faculty providing information and/or direction regarding available food items and/or food service policies and practices.
- Maintain daily sales reports and trends.
- Maintain working knowledge of budget vs actual cost and meal cost per plate to ensure financial responsibility.
- Inventory and order food, condiments, and supplies maintaining adequate quantities and service of items.
- Supervise and schedule food service personnel as assigned maximizing the efficiency of the workforce and meeting shift requirements.
- Train employees, ensuring achievement of work goals and maximizing performance.
- Secure substitutes for food service personnel and him/herself when necessary.
- Report equipment malfunctions and/or failure according to established procedures.
- Promotes and ensures good collaboration between both kitchens at NCA.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

- Basic math skills.
- Ability to read and follow a recipe.
- Compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- The work environment is primarily indoors, where noise and temperature levels are moderate. Work is primarily in and out of refrigerators/freezers and warm kitchen environments.
- Vision is sufficient to evaluate the status of food in preparation or storage by reading a variety of materials including gauges and dials.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
