Job Description
As a Functional Safety Engineer on our team, you will be a key contributor in developing New Eagle ECU’s hardware and software meet ISO26262 requirements. Functional Safety Engineer will support customer projects and SEooC development for New Eagle ECU product portfolio. Roles and Responsibilities of the Functional Safety Engineer are but not limited to the following.
Responsibilities
- Create system software safety concepts that address potential hazards and mitigate risks.
- Conduct Hazard and Risk Assessments to identify potential functional safety hazards and assess risk associated with system failures
- Define Safety Goals based on the risk analysis to ensure that systems meet required ASIL levels.
- Ensure that all functional safety activities comply with ISO 26262 standards, with particular focus on verification and validation activities.
- Translate safety goals into technical safety requirements and ensure that they are correctly implemented in the systems.
- Ensure that safety requirements are traceable throughout the development life cycle and are correctly verified.
- Work closely with system, hardware and software engineers to ensure safety requirements are well understood and implemented correctly.
- Work closely with system architects and quality assurance teams to ensure comprehensive safety integration.
- Conduct and participate in DFMEA and FMEDA to assess design risks, their effects and prepare mitigation plan.
- Perform FTA to understand and analyze root causes of system failures.
- Implement and manage fault injection testing to verify that safety mechanisms respond appropriately to faults.
- Develop Safety mechanisms like redundancy , diagnostics, monitoring systems and fail safe strategies.
- Ensure the implementation of system watch dogs , error correction codes and other preventative mechanisms.
- Educate development teams on functional safety process, risks and best practices.
- Ensure that safety mechanisms continue to perform correctly in production and collect data to monitor safety performance.
- Prepare and document a safety case , which provides evidence that the product meets functional safety requirements.
- Ensure all the safety technical requirements are implemented, verified and validated.
- Conduct periodic review meetings with development team so safety features are implemented correctly.
- Produce all necessary documentation related to functional safety, including , safety requirements, test cases, test reports and certification documents.
- Regularly update stakeholders on the progress of safety related activities, risks and mitigation measures.
- Participate in Code review and Code analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics and Communications, Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Proven experience of min of 5 Years in automotive Functional safety software development
- Proficiency in Part 3, Part 4 and Part 6 of ISO 26262.
- Proficiency in Programming languages in C, and C . Basic knowledge of assembly language.
- Good Understanding of microcontroller architecture.
- Proficiency in communication protocols like I2C, SPI, UART and CAN and knowledge of debugging tools like JTAGs, logic analyzers.
- Knowledge of CAN and LIN communication protocols and diagnostics.
- Application experience with CAN-FD, SecOc, and secure boot are added advantage.
- Good understanding of software development life cycle including requirement analysis, design, implementation, testing and maintenance.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently.
