What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing and Communications Specialist position at New England Aquarium?
The Marketing and Communications Specialist provides project and administrative support to the marketing and communications team for all marketing and communications activities-including marketing, public relations, editorial, web, social media, videography, and photography. In an effort to communicate the Aquarium's ocean conservation mission, the marketing and communications team helps tell the stories of the Aquarium's main building on Central Wharf, the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life, and our Animal Care Center, which houses our Sea Turtle Hospital and sustainability programs.
New England Aquarium has implemented comprehensive safety protocols for employees and visitors to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. In addition, we now require employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a reasonable medical or religious accommodation is requested and approved.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm with the option for a hybrid schedule, working some days on-site and some days remotely. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, NH, ME, and VT.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversees project management for the marketing department, updates weekly project status documents, helps ensure projects stay on schedule, and leads weekly project status meetings.
- Maintains and manages a portfolio of marketing and communications projects.
- Helps coordinate on-site press and special visitors.
- Contributes to social media content and updates and optimizes website content.
- Assists in the management of departmental photo databases.
- Hires, and oversees unpaid interns.
- Tracks departmental expenses, processes all departmental invoices and purchasing documents in accordance with Finance Department policies; submits invoices for payment processing in a timely manner; assists in the monthly accrual and annual budget process for the team.
- Provides support with a variety of work including, but not limited to, maintaining mail and email lists, handling event planning and logistics, creating reports, and organizing departmental work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Training and Experience
- Bachelor's degree with a major in marketing or business preferred.
- Two years of significant work experience in marketing or production, project management, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, be proficient in Excel, possess excellent math skills, be an analytical thinker, an astute problem solver, and a team player.
- Motivated, flexible, and willing to take on new responsibilities and initiatives.
- Strong communications, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of database management, data analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
- Top proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other programs including WordPress and Google Drive.
- Interest in ocean conservation and marine life preferred.
