New Hanover County Public Library seeks customer-focused, team-oriented Library Assistants to provide comprehensive and accurate patron assistance at the Pine Valley Library (S. College Rd) and a multi-branch Library Assistant during regular shifts at the Northeast, Downtown, Pine Valley, and Pleasure Island libraries. As the primary point of contact for library services, the position requires a confident and flexible approach to patron engagement. Services include but are not limited to:
Hours:
Varying day shifts Monday through Friday; includes two evenings per week; Saturdays and Sundays in assigned rotation; must be available during emergency situations.

The hiring range for this position starts at $34,008.00 - $45,911.00. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, budget, and market considerations.

- Guiding customers through registration and checkout processes using the integrated library system (TLC)
- Responding to reader advisory and general reference questions by accessing a variety of print and non-print resources
- Guiding customers in the use of essential technological devices and equipment to access library resources
- Providing support in checking out and downloading e-content
- Creating attractive and timely displays featuring library resources
- Operating and troubleshooting self-check machines, printers, computers, and other library equipment
- Protecting each customer's right to privacy and access, adhering to the American Library Association Bill of Rights and Code of Ethics

- Spends up to several hours a day in a stationary position to assist customers
- Frequently moves and positions bins of books which weigh up to 30 pounds
- Frequently transports large numbers of books to various locations in the building
- Positions, places, and removes books and other library materials around, onto, and from shelves at a wide range of heights
- Communicates and exchanges information and ideas with customers and coworkers throughout the workday
