New Home Building Supply: Operations Manager

Main Purpose:

The Operations Manager plans, directs and assigns work activities in the shop for the purpose of producing custom doors, windows, and other for customers. The manager also supports policies and procedures.

 

Core Accountabilities:

The Operations Manager will be responsible for:

  1. Responsible for managing shop team, including woodworking machine operator, assemblers, machine operators, material handlers
  2. Manages, production, schedules materials and labor to achieve production targets
  3. Tracks shop time and attendance and ensures accuracy
  4. Makes employment decisions and/or recommendations, including hiring, improvement plans, promotions, corrective actions, terminations
  5. Makes decisions and solve problems by analyzing information and evaluating results determine process and flow improvements to optimize production
  6. Ensure shop is maintained for proper and safe operations, including ensuring employees wear protective safety and follow safety compliance
  7. Assist General Manager to improve systems of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control, and performance management
  8. Responsible for ensuring shop team properly documents production methods and materials:
  9. Opens and closes the facility
  10. Responsible for ensuring trucks and forklifts are maintained timely and properly.
  11. Dispose of and/or recycle any waste in line with company and state environmental policy.

Key Outputs/Results:

The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that the shop production is timely and accurate, including management of the team, the machinery and inventories.

 

Key Relationships:

It is vital that the Operation Manager work cohesively with all members of the company.

 

Essential Knowledge:

High school diploma or GED equivalent. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Supervisory Management or similar a plus. Excellent math skills.

 

Technical Skills:

Ability to work all machines in the shop. Blueprint reading skills.

The physical activity of this position.

  • Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Awareness of surroundings and hazards as it is a shop. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time. Approximate Duration: 8 hours a day, with breaks and a meal period.
  • Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Maximum Weight 75 Average

Physical exertion of the position.

 

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision.

  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operates machines, such as lathes, drill presses, power saws, and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature, such as carpenter, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position.

  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. It is an uncontrolled environment.
  • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
