Job Summary
The School Counselor reports to the Principal and works closely with the administrative team to support the social and
emotional well-being of students, parents, and faculty. The Counselor, in coordination with administration, work to create
a safe and welcoming environment for all students and be a resource for short term social-emotional counseling, support,
and education for the New Hope community. Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the Counselor promotes
student success, provides preventive services, and delivers a comprehensive school counseling program for all students.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a love for God and His children
- Work collaboratively with the leadership team in all school matters
- Develop trusting relationships with students, teachers, and families
- Maintain positive, constructive, and professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- Serve as the liaison and coordinate with teachers, administrators, and outside support systems (physicians,
providing/receiving requested information, making recommendations, and supporting students
- Serve as first resource for teachers looking for additional suggestions or strategies related to social and
- Oversee and develop proactive, emergency, and crisis management mental health responses reflective of
- Develop and support parent/guardian learning and connections through presentations, panel discussion, and
- Counsel students regarding academic and short-term social-emotional concerns
- Provide individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding
- Teach guidance classes and provide guidance counseling to students in small group or classroom settings to
- Consult, facilitate, and maintain communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents
- Support, plan, and attend student activities and events.
- Facilitate peer mediation

Education and Experience
- In-depth knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession
- Effective crisis management skills; knowledge of trauma-informed practices
- Strong knowledge of school counseling services and ability to effectively present information to all
- Three years minimum of school counseling experience
- Master’s degree in or related to Psychology, Social Work, or School Counseling and/or relevant endorsement
