JOB DESCRIPTION

Instructional Aide – One to One Aide

PURPOSE: This position is a highly visible one. The Instructional Aide - provides support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the regular classroom or in a self-contained classroom; assisting and implementing plans for instruction; monitoring behavior; and providing information to appropriated school personnel.

REPORTS TO: Principal and/or designee

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/College Degree preferred
  • Must be self-motivating and able to work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent’s, and or ratios.
  • Ability to work with a wide diversity of individuals.
  • Skills are required to perform multiple tasks.
  • Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4
  • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities, with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3- 4A.4.
  • Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education. During the initial six-month period provide a sworn statement that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense in accordance with 18A:6-7.1.
  • Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists and escorts students when necessary for attending to the student's personal hygiene and care needs and arrival to/from destinations.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff, and a variety of health care professionals, and professional support personnel for communicating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and meeting IEP Goals.
  • Provides, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to student in a variety of individual and group activities for reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP plans; and ensuring student's success in school.
  • Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records for ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Intervenes in potential conflicts utilizing appropriate physical and/or therapeutic approaches for diffusing confrontations and minimizing disruptions.
  • Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, research-based interventions for presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations for acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Supervises individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for providing a safe and positive learning environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 10-month full-time position that is annually renewable in accordance to NHCCS approved policies and procedures. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as duties demand.

COMPENSATION: Salary recommended by the Chief School Administrator and established by the Board of Trustees.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Chief School Administrator or designee in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy.

Pay: $25,000.00 - $40,000.00 per hour
