The New Jersey Attorney General’s office is looking for five attorneys to function as a Deputy Attorneys General in the Financial Affairs Practice Group – Finance and Benefits Section in the Division of Law, Trenton, NJ. The positions will be appointed to the title Deputy Attorney General 4 or 3 with a salary range between $87,578.62 to $143,971.92 per year. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary and title will be determined by the Department commensurate with experience. Salary offers and titles are non-negotiable and will fall within the range posted.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Attorney General has broad oversight of the state’s legal and law enforcement matters. As the head of the Department of Law & Public Safety, the Attorney General supervises a wide range of Divisions, Offices, and Commissions, consisting of over 2,800 sworn law enforcement officers, 600 attorneys, and thousands of other public servants.

ABOUT THE DIVISION:

The Division of Law (DOL) serves as primary legal counsel for New Jersey state government. Generally speaking, this work takes three forms: by providing legal advice to the state’s departments and agencies, by defending the state in civil litigation, and by bringing civil lawsuits against individuals, corporations, and other entities that violate the law and harm New Jersey and its residents. Staffed by nearly 500 attorneys, DOL’s responsibilities cover a broad swath of legal issues, including those involving banking, child protection, corrections, education, environmental, finance, health, insurance, taxation, and transportation matters.

ABOUT THE SECTION:

The Treasury – Finance and Benefits Section provides counsel and representation to the Division of Pensions and Benefits, the various State pension and health benefit boards and committees in the Department of the Treasury, and certain other divisions within the Department of the Treasury, including the Division of Purchase & Property, the Division of the State Lottery, the Office of Public Finance, the Office of information Technology, the Division of Property Management and Construction, and the Division of Investment. The T-FAB Section also provides counsel and representation to various State authorities that handle, among other things, financing, housing, economic development, and real estate development. These authorities include the Economic Development Authority, the Educational Facilities Authority, the Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, the Garden State Preservation Trust, the Building Authority, the Health Care Facilities Financing Authority, and the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Deputy Attorneys General work under the supervision of the Assistant Attorneys General in the Division of Law, and the Section Chief and Assistant Section Chiefs of the Section, to provide legal representation and advice to many Divisions and Agencies within the Department of the Treasury, including the Division of Purchase & Property, the Division of the State Lottery, the Office of Public Finance, the Office of Information Technology, the Office of Management and Budget, the Division of Property Management and Construction, the Division of Investment, and the Office of the State Comptroller. The Treasury - Finance and Benefits Section (T-FAB) Section also provides counsel and representation to the Division of Pensions and Benefits, and the various State pension and health benefit boards and committees. In addition, the T-FAB Section provides counsel and representation to various State authorities that handle, among other things, financing, housing, economic development, real estate development, and retirement savings accounts. These authorities include the Economic Development Authority, the Educational Facilities Authority, the Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, the Garden State Preservation Trust, the Building Authority, the Health Care Facilities Financing Authority, the Transportation Trust Fund Authority, the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank, and the New Jersey Secure Choice Savings Program Board.

· Provide legal representation and advice to many divisions and agencies within the Department of the Treasury;

· Provides counsel and representation to the Division of Pensions and Benefits, and the various State pension and health benefit boards and committees;

· Provides counsel and representation to various State authorities that handle, among other things, financing, housing, economic development, real estate development, and retirement savings accounts; and,

· Participates in legal and related activities involving federal and local jurisdictions and other State entities.

· Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor.

· Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required.

· Two (2) OR three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney.

· Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.

· Candidates should submit a supplemental document, included with your resume, outlining (a) litigation experience in State and Federal court; and/or (b) investigation experience.
