ACCESS NAVIGATORS
[Part-Time, Temporary]
Position Description:
The New Jersey Library Association (NJLA), is seeking to hire bilingual Access Navigators, to assist in the implementation of a grant funded program initiative. The Access Navigator is a new part-time temporary grant funded position, designed to operationalize NJLA’s Access Services initiatives. The Access Navigators will report to a Program Coordinator and will work closely with NJLA’s Access Services Task Force. The Access Navigators will provide individual and group instruction and coaching, to assist program participants in advancing their learning goals. Duties and Responsibilities o Conduct assessments to test objective skills and record possible barriers to basic and/or digital literacy, and or life skills o Integrate goals, competencies, and objectives into each participant’s work plan. o Learn and utilize the curricula that reflect the cultural, educational, and linguistic background of each participant. o Develop targeted work and learning plans for various literacy levels, including for adults at below basic literacy skills o Utilize various interactive teaching and participatory methods. o Provide Individual coaching and instruction to participants ,based on their learning skills. o Provide suggestion and feedback to participants to help them progress, based on their established goals. o Successfully transition adult learners from below 8thgrade literacy level to Pre-GED, to ultimately GED attainment. o Maintain weekly, quarterly, and yearly reports of participant’s progress. o Adapting new techniques and training methods of teaching to teach complicated or difficult things, so that the students understand them perfectly. o Effective changing of communication skills according to the audience. o Collaborate with the team and program partners to incorporate best practices in adult learning, and to ensure alignment with NJLA’s Access Services goals. o Create and examine data to measure the success of the Access Navigator’s Program. o Assists with seminars, meetings, special projects, and/or general problem resolution. o Assist with the writing and editing of promotional, educational and training materials, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate to the program. o Maintains program and project records, gathers and computes data; prepares special and/or one-time reports, summaries, or replies to inquiries. o Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualification: o Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Some college will be considered. o Bilingual in English and Spanish. o Teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience. o Familiarity with assessing and supporting the wholistic needs of critically low literacy learners. o Strong interpersonal and communication skills. o Must be computer literate and familiar with various technology platforms. o Ability to foster a culture that promotes teamwork, while establishing clear performance standards in accordance with program goals. o Ability to creatively deliver training materials in an In-person and online setting o Ability to effectively, and confidently, present information and respond to questions in a real time environment o Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support. o Commitment to professionalism, professional development, mentorship, and collaboration. o Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability, as a spokesperson, to articulate messages to diverse audiences. o Organizational and multi-tasking skills; ability to prioritize assignments and meet goals and deadlines. o Must have transportation and a valid driver’s license.
Job Requirements:
The position requires light to moderate physical effort demanded when performing functions under typical office and computer use conditions. Light to moderate physical effort and stamina required for assigned travel and transport of work-related materials and equipment to meeting sites.
Must be eligible for permanent employment in the United States with documentation for Form
I-9 of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Work Schedule and Location:
The work-week is up to 20 hours, assigned in the best interest of the organization. Hours may vary. The Navigators are expected to travel to various assigned library locations to provide training. Occasional work may be completed virtually or from the NJLA office in Bordentown,
NJ.
Compensation: $20 - $25/ hour, commensurate with skills, knowledge and experience.
