Position Title: Executive Director
Reports To: Board of Trustees/Board Chair

Purpose:
We are looking for a Non-Profit Executive Director to join our team and guide our organization forward by overseeing all operational, financial, and technical aspects of the organization. The Executive Director’s responsibilities include preparing accurate financial reports for the Board of Directors, assisting with volunteer recruitment activities, and leading annual budget reviews.
The successful candidate will drive strategic planning, fundraising, and stakeholder relationships to achieve the organization's mission and goals. Seventy percent of this role will be direct development work, which is to manage and supervise fundraising programs and manage and write grant applications in order to generate the financial resources to meet the organization’s mission, immediate priorities, and long-term goals. You will work with various volunteers and other professionals in the organization to ensure we meet our annual fundraising goals and continue to build our volunteer base for future success.

This position is an at-will role for employment by the New Jersey State Museum Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the New Jersey State Museum. This is not a direct employment contract with the Museum or the State of New Jersey.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Fundraising:
  • Develop and implement fundraising plans and calendar; set goals and projections and develop strategies.
  • Prospect, identify, and solicit all grant funding; manage all aspects of the entire grant cycle; pre-award, award and post-award phases including drafting of grants, budget preparation and compliance to funder requirements.
  • Prospect, identify and solicit funding opportunities through sponsorship and individuals for both general operations and Museum projects.
  • Steward existing donor relations including regular and meaningful donor contacts.
  • Maintain accurate reporting in all areas of fundraising and analyze results.
  • Ensure Membership and Development Coordinator maintains accurate donor records and provide timely correspondence including gift/membership acknowledgements and requests.
  • With support from the Membership and Development Coordinator, develop content for all fundraising correspondence, Foundation marketing, and outreach materials.
  • In collaboration with committee members and staff, perform and manage all aspects of fundraising events from inception to post-event acknowledgment and re-cap.
  • Assess local, political, social, and economic factors that will impact Foundation fundraising.

Marketing:
  • Effectively present information, through public speaking and presentations; represent Foundation at Museum and public events.
  • Manage Foundation’s LinkedIn account/provide content for Museum emails and social media posts.

Administration and Management:
  • Provide the Board Chair and Trustees with regular and accurate status reports.
  • Partner with Board to coordinate (and attend) meetings; maintain minutes; prepare and distribute appropriate meeting materials.
  • Supervise Foundation staff.
  • Manage basic office operations and administration.
  • Monitor current legal requirements, standards, and best practices for fundraising and nonprofit organization management; ensure organization is practicing in accordance with all laws and regulations.
  • Seek professional development to stay current in trends and opportunities.
  • Occasional nights and weekends may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned/required.

Minimum Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience OR an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of related work experience.
  • Related work experience must be in the areas of non-profit management and/or non-profit fundraising/development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, QuickBooks, Donor Perfect and Canva.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant writing and proposal development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a Board of Trustees, peer collaboration, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing an individual/corporate donor base.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing strategic objectives and budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience managing staff members.

Desired Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and experience in planned giving.
  • Event planning experience.
  • The ability to cultivate new and existing board member relationships.
  • Email marketing such as Constant Contact.
  • Graphic design with Adobe or Canva.
  • Comfort with and participation in social media platforms are beneficial.
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude for learning and adopting new technology.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive people-first attitude, mission-driven and self-directed.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Location:  This is a full-time role (four [4] days per week) in our Trenton, NJ office location.  After a successful ninety (90) days in the role, one (1) remote day per week will be considered.
  • Schedule: A flexible four (4) day per week schedule.
  • Exempt and salaried role. Salary range: $48,000 - $55,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
