Department head

TITLE : DEPARTMENT HEAD (part-time)

REPORTS TO : Principal or designee

SUPERVISES : Department Staff

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Salary and work year are determined by the Board of Education and the Teachers' Bargaining Unit

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY : To provide leadership and coordination in assigned curriculum area

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

This description of DEPARTMENT HEAD is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the supervisor according to varying needs.

• Develop policies and regulations for the department's operation.
• With staff, develop, implement, and evaluate the department's instructional program.
• Supervise and evaluate department members and coordinate their activities.
• Facilitate planned program of orientation and in-service activities.
• Conduct department meetings on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Prepare and administer the department budget.
• Assist in the recruitment, screening, and assigning of department personnel.
• Manage and maintain inventory of the department's supplies, textbooks, equipment, and supplementary materials.
• Interpret the program to staff, the Board, and the community.
• Performs such other department tasks as the Principal may from time to time require.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

• Connecticut Intermediate / Administrative Supervisory or Department Chairperson certificate
• Major teaching experience in field of specialty

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Bilingual (English and Spanish)

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION : Annually by the Principal or designee

SALARY : Stipend as indicated by Teachers Unit Bargaining Contract
