SUMMARY
New Los Angeles Elementary School is seeking a high energy, well-organized Assistant Principal who
has proven success at the elementary school level and is seeking a small school environment where
they have the ability to share in the school's leadership and shape the school's future. New LA is looking
for outstanding, data-driven educators with a strong foundation in the Common Core State Standards,
and whose leadership beliefs and practices are rooted in anti-racist, culturally responsive pedagogy.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Principal, the Assistant Principal is responsible for the following areas:

Education Operations & School Culture

  • Develop, promote, and coordinate social justice programming throughout the curriculum and
school culture;
  • Lead PBIS at the school supporting students, staff and families to engage with the system
effectively and promote an overall positive school culture;
  • Oversee co-curricular programs including student leadership, weekly assemblies, mindfulness
and community engagement;
  • Coordinate with community partner organizations for additional programming (dance, sex ed.,
anti-bullying, etc.)
  • Manage field trips and outdoor education trips;
  • Help create a positive and fair work environment where teachers feel enthusiastic about the
school;
  • Assist the principal with Instructional Leadership duties and with Promoting Achievement duties
as needed;
  • Oversee gen. ed. counseling program (internal and with partner organizations);
  • Attend IEP meetings as needed;
  • Coordinate and facilitate SSPT meetings;

  • Monitor attendance through monthly audits, implement tiered re-engagement strategies and
facilitate the SART process;
  • Lead teacher committees as needed.

Student Management

  • Oversee restorative justice practices in conjunction with grade level leaders and principal;
  • Set the tone for student expectations for behavior;
  • Support teachers with classroom management strategies;
  • Use timely and effective communication strategies with parents and faculty regarding student
behavior and consequences;
  • Oversee behavior contracts and reward systems that support individual students according to
need;
  • Track discipline incidents internally and for CALPADS;
  • Manage Suspension Reports for LAUSD;
  • Manage in-school suspensions.

Testing

  • Manage all State testing coordination and administration (CAASPP, ELPAC, PFT);
  • Manage all benchmark testing coordination (iReady);
  • Provide PD and training for faculty on test administration (internal and state);
  • Attend all state mandated trainings;
  • Ensure security of all testing materials;
  • Monitor and track state testing data and data management systems (TOMS) and oversees

on-sight filing of all results in student cumulative folders, and makes all appropriate submissions
to district (LAUSD) and state (CDE);

  • Create testing schedules.

After School Program

  • Monitor after school program for quality and mission alignment;
  • Collaborate with after school provider on academic intervention and remediation;
  • Collaborate with after school provider on enrichment, arts, and sports activities;
  • Collaborate with after school provider on discipline and behavior management.

Talent Management

  • Supervise and evaluate specialists;
  • Supervise and evaluate paraprofessionals, teacher assistants or other non-credentialed
instructional staff;
  • Train staff on school culture initiatives (PBIS, restorative justice, bullying prevention, etc.);
  • Assist in hiring;
  • Assist in the implementation of PD for faculty;
  • Manage and support day to day subs.

QUALIFICATIONS
In order to be considered for this position at New LA, candidates must:

  • Possess an MA or above in Education (CA administrative credential preferred);
  • Have experience working with diverse student populations and the ability to serve as a culturally
responsive instructional leader;
  • Have teaching and/or administrative experience at the elementary school level and enjoy working
with elementary school students;
  • Demonstrate teaching expertise, including differentiated instruction and student-centered
methodologies;
  • Have experience with special education, English Learners, and data analysis;
  • Be committed to the mission and values of New LA and able to articulate commitment to the
mission;
  • Go the extra mile in order to meet the educational needs of our students;
  • Have a positive outlook, enjoy collaborating with colleagues and appreciate different points of
view;
  • Bilingualism is a plus.

COMPENSATION
New LA offers a competitive salary for an administrator at this level ranging from $99,000-$124,000
based on experience. Faculty members also receive a generous package of medical benefits, and
optional enrollment in a retirement plan.
