Position Description
Medical Assistants collaborate with New Narrative staff, Service Coordinators and RN’s to monitor and assess a client’s psychiatric, medical and social needs. The Medical Assistant assesses and oversees medication monitoring and administration in compliance with applicable OAR’s and functions as a liaison between residents, physicians, administration, and other healthcare providers.
Summary of Duties
- Monitors client medication orders/ re-fills on a weekly basis and distributes medications in accordance to Physicians and New Narratives policies
- Completes administrative paperwork as needed throughout client check ups and inquiries and follows up on concerns of clients and/ or assigned MLP.
- Regularly meets with and educates clients one on one about medication information such as dosage amount, how to self administer to name a few. MA will also provide health education to clients about recovery skills to prevent a relapse of mental health symptoms.
- Conducts rehab activities around nutrition, including education on special dietary needs, exercise, weight management, healthy food choices, and portion sizes to further educate clients on healthy behaviors.
- Evaluates emotional crises and engages in de-escalation technique.
- Adhere to confidentiality, Professional Ethics, and Dual Relationships per policy and Administrative rule.
- Complete Medical Assistant Certification within 6 months of hire date.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of medication and correct administration, reducing the potential for medication errors
- Experience working with psychiatric clients
- Understanding of Medicaid billing system
- Interpersonal/human relations skills
- Client assessment skills
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to apply sound clinical judgment, to plan work, establish priorities, and remain flexible
- Adhere to client confidentiality
- Ability to delegate and teach
Education/Certificates/Licenses/Registration:
Medical Assistant degree required. Completion of Medical Assistant certification within six months of hire date.

Pay: $20.20 per hour
