What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Counsel position at New Relic?
Your Opportunity
Seeking a problem-solving lawyer with employment law experience to grow into a broad role as a Legal Counsel. Reporting to the Director, Legal for Employment, you will advise on employee relations and policy matters and conduct/support investigations across HR, security, finance, and other areas of our global operations. This is an ideal role for an attorney with employment litigation, investigations, and advice skills who is ready to apply that experience more broadly, learning as you go.

What You’ll Do
- Counsel on employee relation issues, employment compliance and legal requirements, and employee disputes.
- Lead response to dispute communications, such as restrictive covenants allegations and commercial claims, applying savvy language and long-range strategy.
- Develop a consistent investigation process and handle internal investigations.
- Respond to and defend sporadic agency charges, regulatory reviews, and employment-related claims.
- Draft, review, and revise employment policies, position statements, settlement agreements, and other employment and litigation documents.
Your Qualifications
Must-have:
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school; a member in good standing of a US state bar.
- Minimum of 3 years of employment law practice (multi-state or international experience a plus).
- Demonstrated practice in employment litigation and discovery processes.
- Self-directed in planning and conducting investigations and comfortable prioritizing projects to meet urgent business needs.
- Strong writing skills and effective at adapting legal terms to employee-friendly communications.
- Work well with colleagues at all levels of human resources, product, privacy, security, and operations.
