Students gain skills and use their voices in ways that prepare them for life beyond school. Project-based learning in NTN schools allows students to engage with material in creative, culturally relevant ways, experience it in context, and share their learning with peers.

As a key member of the Leadership Team, the Chief Financial and Operations Officer (CFOO) should be an operationally savvy strategic financial leader with management experience for talent development.  This position is both a “hands on” individual contributor as well as oversees a small department responsible for the Finance, People and Equity, Contracts, and Information Technology functions.  The CFOO plays a critical role in optimizing both financial performance and organizational effectiveness  The CFOO will be a key partner to the CEO, member of the Leadership Team, work across the organization and work closely with the Board.  The ideal candidate for this position is an analytical, collaborative,  empathetic, and results-driven leader committed to supporting NTN’s mission and improving  our internal efforts to be efficient, effective, and equitable.

The CFOO will possess exemplary  financial and operational skills with excellent verbal and written communication.   Additionally, they will have expertise in managing and coaching people and teams, building strong organizational culture, and experience in negotiating contracts and agreements.  

LOCATION:  Remote, up to travel 25%

REPORTS TO:  CEO


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Organizational Leadership

  • Provide thought partnership to the CEO with a focus on the organization’s financial strategy 
  • Ensure best practices for internal controls with oversight of  accounting and financial planning functions, including monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Foster an organizational culture of learning while facilitating opportunities for staff development, growth and collegiality
  • Partner closely with  Leadership Team peers to foster a strong organizational culture that values diversity in all forms and where everyone feels valued, heard, and a sense of belonging

Strategic Finance

  • Advise, manage, and implement NTN's fiduciary responsibilities including development of long-term financial planning strategies, annual budgeting, grant compliance, contracts negotiation and management, accounting, and forecasting process
  • Manage, analyze, and communicate financial reports, cash flow, forecasts, project/program and grants accounting, and department budgets in an accurate and timely manner 
  • Oversee the annual audit process with external auditors and the board audit committee
  • Lead the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CEO
  • Research and communicate technical accounting issues for compliance 
  • Act as primary liaison with legal for risk management and  compliance as needed

People & Operations

  • Update, improve and implement all necessary business policies, practices and procedures in finance, talent, and planning systems 
  • Refine and support the implementation of equitable practices including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, development, learning, and performance management
  • Monitor the effectiveness and ongoing development of tools and systems for knowledge management; ensuring timely support and training for staff to foster a culture of collaboration
  • Lead, improve, and oversee NTN’s employee value proposition and benefits to meet organizational and individual needs
  • Champion and implement the value of equity in our internal community building work and practices
  • Additional duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree, CPA
  • 10 years of experience in the finance function with experience overseeing and streamlining systems in operations
  • 6 years team management experience, including experience managing managers and virtual work environments, with excellent leadership and coaching skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration and relationship-building skills, including the ability to work across the organization and with board members
  • Demonstrates a commitment and action to diversity, equity, and community
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Adaptability and ability to multi-task and prioritize projects independently in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience managing HR and/or IT
  • Administrative experience  within Netsuite, Concur, ADP, Asana, 
  • Experience with K-12 educational services, including an understanding of private philanthropy, government contracts, and fee-for-service income 
  • Expertise with human service, payroll, and tax compliance
  • A successful track record in management of  grants inclusive of renewal processes
  • Experience advancing a diversity, equity and inclusion plan/program within an organization

Must be able to collaborate effectively with others on a regular basis. Those people include, but are not limited to, employees of all levels within the organization, board chair, audit committee chair, district leaders, and members of other organizations, customers, vendors and visitors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Low physical effort required to sit, stand at files, bend, stoop, lift, and walk. Maximum unassisted lift = 35lbs. Requires ability to use a keyboard, monitor, and calculator. Also requires the ability to communicate verbally, both in person and on the telephone. 

WHAT WE OFFER

New Tech Network offers competitive compensation. The salary range for this position starts at $190,000 with a final offer based on the candidate’s professional experience and internal equity.  In addition to base salary, our competitive compensation includes:
