Location: 1 position can be in one of 3 areas Hampton Roads, Alexandria, VA or Richmond, VA (partially remote during the COVID Pandemic)
New Virginia Majority (NVM) is Virginia’s leading civic engagement organization that mobilizes and organizes people of colors and backgrounds across the state. Our theory of change links high impact voter mobilization, deep community organizing and effective policy and advocacy. NVM is currently expanding its team. Description:
This position will work in close coordination and collaboration with all NVM departments to build greater staff alignment and a stronger shared analysis and practice through political education, workshops, special events, one on one meetings and cultural (and just plan fun) activities.
This is a Senior Director position and will report directly to one of our Co-Executive Directors.
Responsibilities will include:
Build a stronger and more aligned organization through a range of training and education, curriculum design and implementation, relationship building and a praxis of joy and struggle! Build organizational alignment through creative strategies including:
- Organization wide convenings and special events.
- Orientation curriculum, internal newsletter or podcast - develop and maintain NVM tools and education materials
- Create and maintain an archive with materials and tools.
- Identify, provide, and promote political education, training, and program information with events and activities throughout the year. Both program design and implementation.
- Collect, organize and analyze data for the purposes of program evaluation and strategy-building.
- Conduct regular and consistent strategic planning with team members to ensure program effectiveness, deep and sustainable impact and continuous learning.
Professional Development
- Create an annual development plan to strengthen skills and provide opportunities for on-going learning.
- Participate in organizational decision-making and support collaboration between and within departments ( Political, Policy, Organizing, etc…).
- Contribute to the ongoing refinement of our theory of change and organizational alignment around that theory.
Required Qualifications:
- Deep passion and commitment to advancing racial, gender, economic and social justice. Belief in the leadership and power of working class communities of color.
- Experience in community organizing and/or electoral organizing and in the develop of political education for community-based staff.
- Creativity, ability to adapt, manage ambiguity and be solution oriented. Desire to learn and experiment with different approaches.
- Desire to collaborate and co-create projects with others. Comfort with member-led strategy and delegating responsibilities to others.
- Ability to self-direct and take initiative in the area of work.
- Strong time-management skills.
- Bilingual - Spanish / English preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and Zoom and comfortable with e-mail communication
- Able to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends
Compensation:
Compensation is $80,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and stipend for phone and transportation.
