What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Director of Legislative Affairs position at New York State Executive Chamber?
As a member of the Executive Chamber, the Associate Director of Legislative Affairs reports to the Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs and plays a role in keeping the Governor and Secretary informed about matters related to the New York State Legislature. The Associate Director of Legislative Affairs also serves as a liaison for New York State Legislative Issues.
Duties:
- Perform comprehensive research on pending legislation to provide valuable insights and information.
- Continuously track and analyze the status and developments of bills and resolutions within the Legislature.
- Undertake specialized projects and in-depth studies as directed by the Deputy Secretary or Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs.
- Assist the Assistant Secretary in effectively communicating the Legislature's requests and initiatives with other Chamber staff members.
- Responsively address any additional tasks or assignments as requested, contributing to the overall efficiency of the legislative process.
- Assist with event coordination, as needed, including follow up phone calls to attendees, coordination with Executive Operations, and assistance with any staffing needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 4 years of pertinent work experience in fields such as public administration, public policy, law and policy, or related areas are required.
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the legislative process at the state level.
- Has an ability to navigate and facilitate the legislative process from bill conception to passage.
- Evaluate proposed policies, legislation, and regulatory changes critically.
- Exhibit strong communication skills, including the capability to prepare clear, concise reports, briefings, and correspondence.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills to efficiently manage legislative schedules, meetings, and documentation.
- Able to assist in seamless coordination of legislative activities and deadlines.
- Exhibit proficiency in utilizing legislative tracking systems, office software, and databases, enhancing efficiency in managing and accessing legislative information.
Salary : $90,000 - $115,000
