Position Summary

The Conflict of Interest Manager reports to the Senior Director for Research Compliance in NYU’s Office of the Vice Provost for Research and works in collaboration with compliance officials across NYU to align processes to ensure consistency across all programs. Key responsibilities include preventing and investigating potential conflict of interest issues across all areas of NYU including foreign engagement, export control, and research security issues. Must understand and document emerging risks to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university mandated laws, regulations, and policies. Must develop and foster collaborative relationships with faculty and researchers as well as administrators across overlapping and intersecting units within and across NYU’s global network of campuses. He/she/they will be responsible for performing compliance and regulatory related activities in support of NYU's oversight of the Research Conflict of Interest (COI) program to ensure compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical skills and be detail oriented.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's Degree Preferred Education:Master's Degree Masters in a scientific discipline, research administration/compliance, business, organizational management, or related field and/or Law degree Required Experience:5 years With a minimum of four (4) years' experience in higher education, research administration, or compliance related to conflict of interest. Preferred Experience:5 years • Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and application of state and federal regulations regarding conflicts of interest. • Complex regulatory analysis, problem solving, and organizational skills. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:• Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Working knowledge of the principles and current trends in federal regulations and research security. • Working knowledge of internal processes related to one or multiple research compliance areas (e.g., human subjects protections, animal welfare, export controls, environmental health and safety, responsible conduct of research). • Ability to interpret and implement appropriate policies in each situation and communicate them to the research community. • Capacity to communicate regulations to investigators, preferably with experience in training. • Experience in filing appropriate compliance reports with regulatory agencies. • Ability to provide organizational and administrative support to research initiatives. • Ability to manage relationships with investigators, sponsors, and regulatory agencies when applicable. • Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with all levels of the organization, and manage multiple projects and deadlines. • Ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining rigorous attention to detail. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards. • Exceptional communication, analytical, presentation, and time management skills. • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills are required, as is superior ability to address sensitive topics with empathy and a commitment to inclusivity. • Proficiency in reviewing and editing complex scientific and/or regulatory protocols, proposals, documents, and correspondence. • Ability to compile and maintain regulatory documentation databases or systems. • Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, diplomacy, discretion, and tact in all work efforts. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite • Proficiency with grants management electronic systems - knowledge of Cayuse Grants Management System a plus. • Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data in NYU systems and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards. • Willingness to participate in special projects and task forces as needed. • Ability to project a high degree of intelligence, energy, and imagination, and have an outstanding work ethic and personal enthusiasm for the mission of New York University, as well as a genuine commitment to the advancement of science and education. • Must value the importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion as an organizational operating principle. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:• Ability to demonstrate complex regulatory analysis, problem solving, and organizational skills. • Ability to read and interpret scientific and/or regulatory jargon to ensure grants congruency and regulatory compliance.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $95,000.00 to USD $145,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
