Financial Empowerment Coach
Full-Time
Newcap, Inc. is a private non-profit Community Action Agency whose mission is to move people from poverty to opportunities & economic security and improve communities. Newcap provides selective services to ten northern & NE Wisconsin counties.
Newcap is looking to add a professional, loyal, and knowledgeable individual to their team. The Financial Empowerment Coach will provide credit management counseling and in-depth budget counseling to clients.
General Responsibilities:
Financial Empowerment
- Provide budget counseling and credit/debt management counseling to clients.
- Assess client’s overall financial picture and determine an action plan to maximize the financial life and future of client, manage debt, and meet necessary goals.
- Maintain knowledge of HUD housing counseling certification and activities to include: credit/debt management procedures and options, as well as budget counseling techniques, foreclosure intervention practices, loan modification and refinancing options, and medical and insurance debt procedures.
- Assist with loan/debt modifications (student, medical, loans, leases) and offer budgeting solutions.
- Coordinate and provide direct coaching to consumers, helping them set and achieve their own financial goals around money management, credit, saving, and more.
Agency Intake:
- Take calls from clients in need of agency programs, ask screening/qualification questions.
- Refer to appropriate agencies or begin application process by sending application packet.
- Maintain knowledge of all Newcap programs and related community programs and services.
- Maintain relationships and network with other community-based service providers.
- Enter all information into Captain database.
Eviction Prevention
- Advocate for clients and assist with eviction prevention and housing stability while teaching clients how to advocate for themselves
- Collaborates with peer organizations, local school districts and colleges, in presenting educational seminars.
- Work with clients on a one-on-one basis to provide education, guidance and referrals tailored to each client’s unique circumstances.
- Develops outreach programs and strategies to bring awareness of Newcap and our services
Qualifications:
- Post secondary education in business, finance, accounting
- 5 years experience in related field and working with low income/financially distressed populations.
- A combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency performing the work may be substituted.
- Knowledge of budgeting and personal financial management principles
- Ability to read, write using proper grammar/punctuation, and communicate effectively
- Possess organizational, planning and analytical skills.
- Computer skills
- Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, project management, presentations.
- Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision or oversite.
- Ability to work with individuals in a respectful and nonjudgmental manner
- Work collaboratively with Newcap coaching team to maximize experience for client and family
