The objective of this role is to develop driveline fluids for electric/hybrid applications and automatic transmissions to meet the technical needs of key global OEMs as directed by manager.
Responsibilities
- Technical lead and / or project lead for customer specific and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) based formulations globally as directed. Visit customers / OEMs as needed
- Performs formulation and testing activities to meet established project objectives. Effective project management via use of the Afton Product Development Process.
- Participates in technical and/or project reviews and presents findings as appropriate for internal and external audiences.
- Build relationships and be the primary technical resource for formulation questions for supported OEMs.
- Engages with assigned teams and cross-functional stakeholders, such as Business, Process Development, Marketing, CTS (Customer Technical Services), Mechanical Testing, OEM Relationship Team, etc.
- Represent Afton in technical conferences, societies and other industry activities. Maintain adequate level of technical expertise and self-development through study, seminars, etc. Stay informed of advanced developments inside and outside of Afton.
- Provide strategic insight for OEM opportunities.
- Promote Afton’s culture, values, quality, and safety principles.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or other relevant science field)
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of applicable chemistry and/or engineering principles and application in a research and development environment typically acquired after at least 5 years of relevant experience
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- Advanced degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or other relevant science field); PhD is strongly preferred
- Experience directly related to applicable product or product category (ATF and electrified powertrain fluid formulations)
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Creative thinking and planning – Ability to identify additive approaches / formulations to meet customer needs.
- Decision Making: Ability to use structured processes and tools to make decisions
- Relationships: Ability to network, build, and nurture relationships within and cross-SBU teams and external customers; ability to work well with others and to influence without authority
- Communication: Ability to communicate in timely and effective manner to wide variety of Afton and external customers. Writing of technical reports and presentations required. Able to explain the complex in understandable manner to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Organization: Use of Project Management, Stage Gate, and structured processes to consistently deliver results when working on complex and multiple programs.
- Positive attitude, independent worker, flexible, responsive, and pro-active
- Formulation experience is strongly desired
- Statistical background and use of DOE (design of experiments)
- Able to travel as required with up to 25% domestic and/or international travel at times
