Your role will consist of
- Knowledgeable of all the sample preparation techniques required to prepare samples for mineralogical analyses. These include prep for: X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), Near-infrared analyses (NIR), and Cation-exchange Capacity (CEC).
- Awareness of tools, instrumentation, technologies, and analyses offered by the Mineralogy Department.
- Assists technicians, Mineralogists, Senior Mineralogists, and Project Managers in laboratory, sample preparation, and instrumentation operations.
- Supports in analyzing and compiling mineralogy data.
- Assist in the scheduling of mineralogy test work.
- Aid in drafting and preparing portions of reports that are ultimately provided to Newmont customers.
- Responsible for quality and timely completion of technical mineralogical reports, and related invoicing.
- Awareness of analytical and metallurgical lab areas and professional rapport with key personnel in those areas
- Develop skills in optical (ore) microscopy using our stereomicroscopes, binocular microscopes, and digital microscope.
- Develop skills in interpretation of XRD spectrum utilizing refinement software for bulk mineral characterization.
People Management
- Aids in managing mineralogy personnel/interns/contingent workers, testwork and the mineralogy laboratory facility to deliver support to various Newmont groups such as Metallurgy, Water, Mining Engineering, Geology, and Exploration.

- Be accountable for the submission of purchase requisitions and work orders as required and approved by the laboratory Director.
- Promote and adhere to internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards by consistently maintaining a high quality of work across all allocated functions.
- Provide input/informed commentary, improvement opportunities and areas of risk to management.
- Be accountable for the quality of work output from the unit department through an ongoing monitoring and audit process.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and company standards through training and development and promote this by example.
- The incumbent will ensure that all reporting required meets MTF (Malozemoff Technical Facility) standards and is completed and distributed on time.
- Follow the standard formats of reporting held at MTF and understand that work must always be reviewed by Manager and subsequently the Director before it is issued
- Ensure required documentation is obtained from contractors including but not limited to, procedures, certificates of competency, licenses, permits, certificates of calibration or testing, (MSDS) etc.
- Ensure contractors complete required general & work area inductions/on boarding, associated with their scope of contracted work.
- Participate and contribute to safe practice and environmental and Social Responsibility awareness.
- Demonstrate personal commitment in regard to safety, and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
- Identification of potential hazards and action that is appropriately taken.
- Maintenance of a high standard of efficiency, safety and effectiveness.
- Raising, discussion and resolution of safety, environmental and Social Responsibility issues at regular meetings.
- Report incident, near misses and hazards through Cintellate and follow up the action as the outcome.
- Complete monthly area safety inspection in timely manner.
- Able to deliver results on quoted targets.
- Able to build relationships and engage people in continuous improvement processes.
- Strong customer and service focus.
- Responsible to develop and maintain relationships with site and external stakeholders that support effective collaboration across these groups.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree/Master Degree in Mineralogy, Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field is required.
- Must possess basic computer skills such as ability to enter data into a database and work with common spreadsheet and word processing programs such as Excel or MS Word
- Capable of solving basic mathematical problems
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment
- Capable of understanding flow sheets, mechanical drawings and written procedures
- Working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulatory issues are also required.
Experience:
- 1-2 years’ experience in a relevant field is preferred.
Working conditions and location
- The position is located in the Malozemoff Technical Facility.
- Maintains focus with repetitive tasks lasting 6-9 hours per day.
- Work with sample preparation equipment.
- Work with laboratory standard chemicals, chemicals awareness is a must.
- Wear personal protective equipment including steel toe shoes, safety glasses, respirator, earplugs, and gloves to perform duties safely.
- Willingness to put in extra hours as projects and priorities dictate.
- Work will be conducted in office and laboratory environments with occasional requirement to enter mine operating and office areas

The salary range offered for this role is USD $60,160 - 71,440. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
