The Aircraft Carrier Engineering (ACE) Division is hiring a Lead Inactivation Engineer for the CVN68 Advanced Planning efforts as part of the ships’ Inactivation Process.
Major Job Focus Areas
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

The Role
The Aircraft Carrier Engineering (ACE) Division is hiring a Lead Inactivation Engineer for the CVN68 Advanced Planning efforts as part of the ships’ Inactivation Process.
Major Job Focus Areas
- Serve as organizational spokesperson on the ongoing operational aspects of CVN68 Inactivation efforts and serve as a liaison between management and our customers. Key interfaces will be with the program office, planning, construction, test, government, Navy, and vendors
- Ensure adherence to engineering schedules for overall implementation of the contract and support construction; monitor status of all engineering products (drawings, material, IRs, scopes, liabilities, and other design products)
- Oversee solutions to resolve issues and concerns within the contract that have engineering involvement; facilitate cross-department communications and problem resolution.
- Serve as an engineering representative for the division, attending meetings such as IPT meetings, construction/planning agendas, technical issues meetings, recurring project and quality reviews, shipcheck planning, and contracts discussions
- Directly interface with government customers at all phases of work, from initial tasking to managing change
- Interface with Program Office and Contracts teams during contract negotiations
- Review and coordination of implementation of all changes under the contract. This could include, but not be limited to, AWP changes, GFI drops, deliverables, key events, open and inspect findings, Schedule A & C, change orders, cost improvement initiatives, obsolescence, and trade’s requests
- Oversee development and implementation of new engineering processes under a contract. Review existing processes for update as needed. Drive continuous improvement for the engineering products and processes.
- Review and report on engineering progress on the contract with program office and other company leadership. Monitor departmental staffing, budget, and earned-value management system (EVMS) performance. Support any Program initiatives when requested.
- Lead and support reviews of technical specifications (Contract, AWP, GSO/NSIs) to ensure NNS processes and procedures meet the contracts technical requirements.

Nice to Have
- Familiarity with NNS RCOH, General Specifications for Overhaul (GSO), and in-service US Navy ship construction, repair, and modernization specifications and processes
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with engineering products such as drawings, scopes, inspection reports, material procurement, departures from specification, work deferral requests, contract data requirements, and technical variance documents
- A willingness to interact with a diverse range of stakeholders in a professional capacity to achieve outcomes beneficial to NNS and our government customers
- Previous leadership in a ship’s RCOH or inactivation
- Demonstrated project management skills and certifications such as PMP
- Waterfront engineering experience
- Previous experience interfacing with the Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SOS) and adjudicating change
- Prior experience processing and implementing government change products such as Field Modification Requests (FMR’s) and Headquarters Modification Requests (HMR’s)
